There are a few surprises this year, Ford and Chevrolet are pretty high up in the rankings, and the Chevy Malibu actually beat out the Accord and the Camry to lead the midsize segment. And I also saw Mercury pretty high up.

Of course the Japanese/Koreans aren't too far behind either. Toyota (and Lexus) seems to have done quite well, and you have the usual Honda and Nissan in different segments (subcompact, compact etc.).

Looks like it is the step in the right direction for Detroit, and I hope they keep it the same way for long term reliability as well.

In the latest customer survey conducted by U.S. market research institute J.D. Power, Mercedes-Benz has become the beneficiary of not one... not two... but three accolades. Receiving two gold awards for the highest vehicle quality in their respective market segments are the E-Class and CLK-Class, while the Platinum Award was bestowed upon Mercedes’ Sindelfingen plant (making it the assembly facility with the best delivered quality worldwide). Overall, Mercedes improved one place over last year - ranking fourth in overall quality - and it was also the only European brand to garner an individual model award.

As to how J.D. Power arrived at the results, market researchers investigated the satisfaction of American customers within the first 90 days of their vehicle purchases, evaluating the quality of both the concept and execution of the vehicle. This year, the opinions of some 80,000 verified owners were tabulated, all of whom owned 2008 model year vehicles.

Looks like the old glorious days will be back again !
Good to know that Mercedez is moving back to its original quality.
I feel that the Eclass W210 or what, I dont and correct me , that happens to be the first E mercedes brought to India was one of the few mercedez that had good build.
This mercedes was also avaliable in 2.5D with JK tyres. This was one of the last ORIGINAL mercedes, and looks like the latest C had made desperate attempt to match it.

What you are referring to,was the W124.The one that followed it was the W210.

OK, then it was my mistake that I was reffering to W210.
So It means that the first Mrecedes E was W124. This was one of the last good built mercedes. The E that came then after were not that good.
Dont know when a new will be coming.

Mercedes is committed to getting back to the good 'ol Benz days. Though I wouldn't trust a 90 day ownership survey entirely, it does carry a certain amount of weight. The new S-Class and C-Class are a step in the right direction.....lets hope they continue with the momentum since there is a long long way to go.

No wonder they managed to cross 300,000 sales mark in the first year of its launch ( there is a seperate thread for the success of new C-class ).

"Once again, as last year, the premium products of Mercedes-Benz have emerged among the winners of a consumer survey carried out by the renowned US market research institute J.D. Power and Associates. With the results of this year’s “APEAL” study, US consumers have once again confirmed the extremely high design and concept quality of the Stuttgart-based automotive brand.

Satisfaction levels among new vehicle owners is the focus of J.D. Power and Associates’ annual “APEAL” study. As the best car among all premium models available in the USA, they chose the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The result for the C‑Class, which has been able to make significant gains over its predecessor model since its market introduction, is equally positive.

At the start of this month, J.D. Power had already honoured the E-Class and the CLK with the coveted Gold Award for top product quality. The Mercedes-Benz works in Sindelfingen also received a Platinum Award as the production plant delivering the best quality worldwide among all car manufacturers."

Looks like Mercedes is leaving no stone unturned for making it back to the best quality tag they had earlier. Good effort with equally good resutls.

2017 JD Power Quality -US

Kia placed first overall with a score of 72 PP100, while Hyundai’s Genesis luxury sub-brand ranked second with 77 PP100. Porsche registered a score of 78 PP100, giving it the final place on the podium.

And the three worst performers in the study - Volvo (134), Jaguar (148) and Fiat (163).

2018 US Vehicle dependability Survey- Lexus topped the rankings for a seventh consecutive year with a score of 99 problems per hundred cars, compared to 127 for Toyota overall.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles trailed in the bottom three of the report's main rankings.

Dear volkman10, thank you for sharing this data with us. would you know what does 99 problems per 100 cars mean? Isn't that a very high number? Maybe I don't quite understand the measure. Any light will help with my darkness. - Narayan
