I have always found the E60 5 series to be one of the most handsome cars around. (Even before I owned one) And things got better with the last face lift, the rear lights with the 5 stripes look mesmerizing.
I'm a fan of modern design, not particularly bangle's. But also appreciate classic designs to an extent. The e60 was the correct blend- it's young, yet sophisticated. Which is why it suits both me and my father

I hope the F10 betters it !

Just because it's common, it looks bad ? And the E60 is overall a fantastic looker, compared to the A6 which pretty much has nothing going for it design-wise except a row of shiny little lights.

To add to what Sahil said, the E60, inspite of being 6-odd years old today, still looks far better and balanced than the W211 / W212 whatever you name it. And side profile, I've never seen a car that looks any more flawless from the side profile.

...except the Flying Spur, of course (in comparision, a Phantom when viewed from the side profile looks like an elephant trying to rip a fart out the back).

rajathv8, Believe me the F10 without it's M derivative itself is going to be so sporty to drive that I believe the M5 based on the F10 will truly be one hell of a M5 with it's own pro's and con's but will not disappoint anyone.

I have said it before and saying it again, MB has only until march to sell the W212 from then this will take over.

Came across these new set of spyshots.

The next-generation BMW 5-series F10 is a much anticipated release for the Bavarian automaker, with the model being one of those mid-level products that can come to define a brand as much as any other.

In this most recent set of spy shots we get a peek inside new 5-series too. A certain amount of camouflaging is being done here (just like the exterior) so that not much is given away until BMW decides it is time to debut the car. But it's natural to assume there will be lots of cues borrowed from the current 7-series as well as the 5-series GT.

BMW executives have stated the 5-series will be a great looking car - or at least, that is one of their primary goals with the new model. And the next-generation will definitely have to strike the proper notes of elegance and sportiness in order to make an impact in the marketplace.

Drivetrains expected are the usual 6-cylinder diesels and petrol/gasoline engines. Interesting to note is the rumored possibility of a direct-injection, turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline/petrol engine making its way to the entry-level motorization for the 5-series. Leading the 5-series range, besides the M5, will be the 550i with the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8.

The 5-series may also come fitted with the ActiveHybrid system seen in the X6 and 7-series.

The next-generation 5-series is expected to debut in 2010.

A lot of 7 series influence over here.Except the scaled down grille. It really has lost the current 5's individuality.

In fact the grille makes it look a tad similar to the last gen 3.Looks a mix between the last gen 3 and the current 7!

Who cares about the interiors? Every Beemer looks the same inside these days!

Default The new 5 looks more self assured, more mature - which is a good thing.

Lads,

Attached two pics on the F10 here.
My reading of the design is - the F10 looks more grown up and mature, and the 'Bangled' design elements have been toned down (which might not be such a bad thing, going forward), such as the butt. The F10 certainly looks more 'sure' of itself, more 'self confidence'.

On the other hand the new E series shows Merc going all quirky and showing off: seems Merc have lost the plot and are becoming nervous. Their design is aimed to evoke reactions...

If I had that kind of money I'd go to the nearest BMW dealer for the F10.

P.S. : The F10 will come with a lot of efficiency ( fuel e, green ) features; rumour has it that the more powerful engines will sport KERS! BMW might well be the first with a KERS on a sedan- although Ferrari has beaten them to it as the first car maker to introduce KERS in a car, any car. Wonder how McLaren's MP 4-12C will shape up.

Regards

Came across some more shots.

Here are the latest spy photos of the sixth generation 2011 BMW 5-Series F10.

Previously, we've seen the F10 transition from faux plastic exterior panels to heavy psychedelic patterned wrappings. But these latest photos show a prototype in silver color which is less obtrusive for viewing than the previously black and white prototypes seen.

With only a few strips of camouflage on the front end, we can clearly see the front bumper lower grill, fog lights, twin kidney upper grills and headlamps.

The lack of camouflage indicates that a media reveal could be coming soon. Reports peg the F10 release for late 2009, perhaps for the L.A. Auto Show in early December, with sales starting in 2010.

The next BMW M5 will be the first to have a turbocharged engine. News of the car's development comes by way of Autocar, who interviewed M division development chief Albert Bierman. Bierman says development of the next-gen M5 is well under way.
Although questions are raised as to whether or not the next M5 will have an engine that produces more than the 500 horsepower in the current M5's V10, it is expected to have an engine that generates 30% more torque than the V10. That would raise maximum torque from 380 ft-lb to nearly 500 ft-lb. This car's performance could match, or exceed, the 555 hp and 501 ft-lb of torque found in the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 used on the BMW X5 M.

“We’ve been forced to switch to an engine offering greater low-end torque than the naturally aspirated engine to ensure it can cope with the longer axle ratio,” Biermann said. He continued to say that the new engine will improve on its predecessor's environmental impact, while maintaining performance.

Although fuel consumption, and emissions, are expected to be reduced, a hybrid version similar to that of the Active Hybrid 7 is not expected. This decision is due to the added weight (100kg) a hybrid system would cause, a contrast to the car's carbon-fiber roof and trunk. Look for a new, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to be on the vehicle, similar to that shown on the 25th anniversary M5. LED lighting, better aerodynamics, and a double-wishbone front suspension should also exist on the car.

Internally called the F10M, the next BMW M5 should be introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The company is currently testing ten different mules.
