Default SUV world record slammed. The Swiss-German Alliance!

Date: 10 March, 2005
Venue: Papenburg, Germany.

Occasion: Fastest SUV in the world, top speed attempt.

Well know Swiss tuners Sportec have successfully pulverised the previous top speed run of 282 km/h. At 15:24 local time, Sportec's latest creation, the SP 600M, based on a 2.5 tonne Porsche Cayenne Turbo, clocked an official 308.435 km/h, in presence of international press at the RK P-Test facility, in Papenburg.

The team at Sportec had been behind the project for almost 13 months, tweaking everyday driveability and trying to lower average fuel consumption.
The specifications though speak for themselves. Hauling the 2.5 tonne behemoth to 100 km/h from standstill in just 4.2 seconds and to 200 km/h in just 14.6 seconds, is an impressive 700 BHP and 850 NM of torque.

Combined to chassis revisions was a specially developed ESC (Electronic Suspension Control) module, which is variable and depending on speed lowers the car upto 40 mm in ride height.

The car rode on specially developed Toyo Proxes ST tyres reading 295/30 R22. The tyres were wrapped around Sportec Mono 10 spoked aluminium rims weighing in at an impressive 18.4 kgs each.
Aerodynamic aids include, revised front and rear spoilers. Additional large rear roof spoiler which helps reduce disturbing eddies at high speeds.

To avoid any sort of controversy, timing procedures adhered to FIA guidelines, allowing maximum deviation upto 0.01 km/h. The company responsible for the time keeping was DAY.

Simple. It's a Porsche. Would you rather have them do it in a Ssangyong Rexton?

Nope. The previous record of 282 km/h was held by Klemann ML55K. The usual 5.5L supercharged V8 putting out 607 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. The record was set at the Nardo high speed bowl in Italy. And guess what Toyo tires again.
