Hi Tom,

Heres some of the reasons I lust after the EVO's from Mitsubishi.

1. These are road-versions of the WRC cars
2. Lightning fast...300bhp + 0 - 100 under 5 seconds
3. With all-wheel drive, wide rubber, rally suspensions and having stuff like active yaw control, they are supreme handlers. I have a video where theres an EVO VIII kicking butt with 360 Modenas on the track.
4. The EVOs are built for and around the driver.
5. They have looks that can kill!!
6. Daily driving in and around town/traffic is not an issue at all. Plus the practicality of 4 doors and a boot.
7. Best of all, the price. Apprx. $30,000 (< 15 Lacs). Of course there are cars that will beat the EVO on the track, but none for $30,000 (beside the Impreza Sti). Its affordable supercar performance for people like you and me.

I was watching APRC on 10 sports y'day. The EVO 8's didnt look so good to me. Doesnt look sporty enough...but thats my personal opinion.

For the last few 3-4 yrs the Mitsubishi's have been the slowest in the WRC.
Infact they were so bad they had to drop out of the championship last year.

This year they have come up with a new Lancer WRC04.
Sadly last rally both cars couldnt even make it to the start as they wouldnt start...LOL

Well Tom, don't compare the results of Mitsubishi on track with that of the road-going Evo VIII. The two cars are same but built for two different purposes. One to garner laurels on track while the other to gain the green flag in the auto journos mags.

Performance in this car on-road is staggering. 0-100 in 4.5 seconds for the FQ 300 and 4.1 seconds in the FQ 330. To put it in perspective, the former is SL55 territory while the latter is Porsche 911 turbo territory. And for a car to perform that well, go around tracks with aplomb, handle stop-go traffic with nary a hesitation for just under 30,000$s, you have to give credit to Mitsu to developing a car that is essentially just a family sedan.

Mitsubishi currently is in turmoil with financial difficulties, one of the reasons why their presence in WRC has become insignificant. But such realities have been faced even by erstwhile WRC championship winning manufacturers. Lancia is one for example. We can only hope that Mitsu can get back on its two feet, hire a finn and just watch them decimate the opposition in WRC. Only if....

Is thr a differene b/n the Lancer and the EVO 8?

Is this 300BHP car the ordinary retail car...or a spl performance version?

There are 3 versions of the Evo VIII. The stock Evo VIII and the two FQ versions, the FQ300 and FQ330. The FQs basically have different ECMs and maybe just a few more mods, but its the ECM change primarily that leads to a huge power surge.

The Lancer underpinnings and Evo are the same. Its just that the Evos are strengthened to take the power thats all.

ok....for that budget or even less
I think i'd buy the 307 3 door 2ltr 5 shift/Tiptronic 180BHP (bone stock street version) Peugeot for $18,000
206 is even cheaper for around 15,000

if revv and gto cannot convince you of the lancer, no one else can. Even the stock lancer, that we get here is a better handler than the old honda city and the opel astra. So just think what a rally based car can do for u.

A Peugeot 307 maybe a good car, but, the EVO is a superb car.

Is this turning out to be War or what?
Well only thing that can convince me off an Evo VIII is the Imprezzive WRX STi WR1 (a family car, that can almost smoke a 360 round a test track and infact even quicker on a ¼Mile Drag Strip..)
I dont think Peugeot even compares to these beasts.. (well am talking strickly street versions.. ).
The 206 GTi, is a fine car, but I think even a 4 year old EVO IV can make it bite the dust..

And as far as the WRC cars of the Road cars are concerned, except for the base Chassis, everything else is changed as per racing requirements.. so the performance of the WRC cars cannot be compared to its road going models..
BTW Tom, I dont think anybody has answered your question...
