Default AMG Diesel by 2010!

AMG plans to launch a diesel model “within three years,” Volker Morningweg, the boss of Mercedes’ tuning division, has announced.
Morningweg described the potential high-performance diesel as an updated version of the legendary AMG Hammer - a petrol-engined W124 E-class. “This car will be the Super Hammer,” said Morningweg.

The new diesel AMG won’t be a large coupe or saloon like the CL or S-class, because the AMG boss has already said that he prefers the idea of a smaller, lighter and more efficient car.

That’s likely to mean a C-class diesel, such as the C320, is in line for the AMG treatment.

The idea of diesel AMGs will inevitably spread to other Mercedes models. The new E-class is more than likely to be available as an AMG diesel.
This new high-performance model won’t be the first diesel-engined Benz to wear an AMG badge. That was the C30 AMG, back in 2002, which was based on a Sport Coupé.

Yeah Baby! These will be a hit in India, mad power combined with good FE. If only they can make it as high revving as a petrol engine, we can bid petrol good bye

In 2003, AMG did make a Diesel, a C30 CDI, if I remember correctly, it wasn't a success at that time. It used a modified 2.7ltr engine bored out to 3.0ltr. Details in the following links:

Thats great news but i hope they develop it soon. The Indian Powerfreaks would sure love it. They get the power with the balance of economy, great combination i would say.
I myself on the other hand prefer the Brabus performance kit for the diesel. It is available at fraction of the cost and throws in some serious power. The kit for the E 280cdi costs 1800 Euros and shaves off 1.3 seconds from the 0-100km times. Roughly bringing it down to 6.5 seconds. You can even lower the times down with other accesories they provide.

About time I say! With the way that diesel technology has outpaced that of petrol in the last decade, performance diesels don't shock anyone anymore. Plus, Germans are especially competent in the area of diesels.

Only one thing will be sorely missed : That awesome deep AMG exhaust rubble.

I bet AMG can somehow manage to make a similar sounding note with a new end-can design or something but i doubt the turbos in that beast would leave anything for the exhaust.
