Here's a bit of history..
this ad was one of the all time famous ads that was responsible for the success of the VW Beetle.. back in the 60s

the word 'lemon' was slang for..a bad deal, or a something that was a failure

..u call well imagine the curiosity when ppl. saw an ad with this headline !
Brilliant body copy to boot !

a little more trivia.. guess who designed it ?
.. Ferdinand Porsche !

Wonderful ! And what an amazing car. Truth be said, I was a little sad to see the last classic version Beetle roll out of the asemble line last year.

How the world has changed - people used to inspect defects out of the car, now the Japs ensure that there are no defects in the first place hence v. little inspection is required

Nice find Hatari. Its mind boggling to see VW's commitment (or claim) to quality.

Agency for ad: DDB

Oh yea it also reminds me of the old VW beetle ad where the headline said something to the effect that the 66 beetle is no different from the 65 and showed no picture of the beetle. The body copy explained to the effect as to why they didn't need to show the car and yet there are some 1000 odd changes all of which are skin deep....

Truly amazing advertising from DDB

BTW for all the ad freaks and marketing students alike, the B in DDB is Bill Bernbach, one of the 3 fathers of modern advertising.
