@ragingbull, the event does take place every year and has been going on at the Hurlingham Club since the past few years. Some of the cars belong to the owners wheras most of them belong to companies or collectors willing to sell them.

There were rumors about an LP 640 and a 670-4. But since I didn't see any of the two standing around, I realized they were false.

I was as shocked as you guys when I saw the SLR, Enzo, Konigzeg (don care about the spelling) and Zonda together I just couldn't believe my eyes. I literally cried when I touched the Enzo.

BTW Jay Kay was present at the event, although I can't confirm if the black Enzo present was his. He was looking at the Aston Martin one 77 pretty seriously. (Another reason to doubt if it was his Enzo indeed, the car was driven off at around 6.00 pm before darkness, and I did happen to ask a person about the asking price for the Enzo and he said it was not for sale!!!!!!!)

His Black Maserati A6 G54 won the GT prize for the 2007 Salon Prive.

There were a few weird items other than cars for sale, a Diamond and Ruby studded Monopoly set and a set of 23-carat gold playing cards.

Here's a link showing Jay Kay's presence at the event - Jay Kay's Ł1m Aston dream - Auto Trader UK - News and Reviews Hub

The newly formed Le Mans category was announced at this years show showcasing the various Le Mans cars that have won different races over the years.

Since im not too familiar with the names or models of the Le Mans cars, I will just be putting up the pics.

The last pic in my previous post is the engine bay of this car.

Saving the best for last............One who rules them all, the Mclaren F1 GTR

This here was the GTR race version on display. It is commonly known as “The Harrods Car”, one of only 5 original race cars built by the factory in 1995. Seeing this car made me realize how lucky I was to witness a great piece of history standing right in front of me.

@funkydevil:

You have really treated us to something really spectacular. The pictures are simply mindblowing. What a superb lineup of LeMans cars. The Rothmans decaled Porsche is one of my all time favourites. The first car in you LeMans picture set is a Competizone Ferrari GTO if I am right.

And the Mclaren F1, what can I say? After all these years it still doesnt fail to amaze me everytime I see it.

Thank you very much for the replies guys.

@Dippy, Thanks bro, Im you liked the pics. I must say, I'm impressed by your knowledge of cars.

@ V10, I dont have any more pics of the vantage. But I have however searched a few sites and have put up pics of the car from the event here.

These pics are from the EVO website.

There is another thing that i'd like to clear up. There was an LP 640 at the event, just happened to notice the picture on another website. It was a Prindville modified murcielago. Since I couldn't get a shot of this, im posting a picture from another website.

I wonder how I failed to spot this one. Pics from Supercar.net

Just posting a few of my own now.........again since I don't know the names of some of the older models, I will just be putting up the pics.

The 6th pic, the one after the murcielago, is an AC. The donor car for the brutal AC Cobra. one of the silver astons is the DB5 made famous by 007.

Default Makes your eyes water!

I've come across this thread days after it was put up, yet I'm thankful to have at last come across it. Also proves the point that vintage car enthusiasts on this site (especially muscle car and Le Mans enthusiasts) dont access this part of Tbhp too often. Come guys, look what you've missed!

While plenty has been written about the latest and greatest, I'll pen down a few lines about the pick of the classics that your camera captured. Comments/criticisms welcome:

1. Le Mans cars - The Porsche 917

Pics: Salon Privé, the Luxury Supecar Event-porsche-917-gulf-livery.jpg

Take a bow. The Porsche 917 was conceived in 1968 to take part in the 4.5 ltr sport category of Le Mans. It featured Porsche's first Flat 12 engine (the stock 911 engine was and still is a Flat 6), and was equipped with ground-breaking technology for its day. Highlights?
  • The car initially came with a long tail, which was shortened in later versions to reduce lift in corners.
  • A 917 in Gulf Oil racing livery (same as the car on display here, in fact could be the same car!) was used in the Steve Mcqueen Film "Le Mans" in 1971.
  • Most importantly (and this is to give the "latest and greatest" fans a shock) the engine produced 900 bhp (naturally aspirated) and between 1100-1500 bhp in turbocharged form. Good for a 0-100 time of 2.6 secs and a top speed of 390 kmph. In 1969!
2. Le Mans Cars - The Porsche 935 Moby Dick

Pics: Salon Privé, the Luxury Supecar Event-porsche-935-moby-dick.jpg

Has none of you played NFS5 - Porsche Unleashed? Remember the banshee like car you had a chance to win after completing the second stage (golden era) of the career mode, which was very powerful but a pig to handle? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Porsche 935.

The 935 succeeded the 917 to the Le Mans platform. By this time a lot of restrictions had been put in place to counter the horsepower war. The focus was on driveability and sheer endurance, rather than outright power. The 935 featured a heavily modified 911 Turbo engine putting out 560 Bhp. Highlights?
  • The "Moby Dick" name was given due to the car having a large, strangely curved tail section - akin to the tailfin of a whale.
  • Thanks to unsprung weight of 800 kgs, the car's top speed was somewhere around 295 kmph.
  • One of the first modifications to the 935 was water cooling instead of air cooling. This was retained even in the road going models. So much for all who thought that Porsche never resorted to water cooling in its production models until the late 90s!
3. Le Mans Cars - The Porsche 956

Pics: Salon Privé, the Luxury Supecar Event-porsche-956.jpg

Another Hyper Porsche, made in 1982. Admittedly it isnt that much of a legend as compared to the previous 2 cars. Only lasted until 84 when it was replaced by the 962. Used a developmental version of the 935 engine and produced about 635bhp.

The main reason I've put up this photo is to actually highlight the grey Aston Martin on the right (behind the blue car). Its an Aston Martin DB5 shooting brake - one of only 12 ever produced. Too rare to be sighted.

4. Muscle Cars - Plymouth Superbird

Pics: Salon Privé, the Luxury Supecar Event-plymouth-superbird.jpg

Take a bow again. In terms of outright power, the SuperBird was probably the king of American Muscle Cars.

It was a development on the Plymouth Road Runner, developed especially for Nascar racing. The huge spoiler that you see is not for show. It was intended to keep the car on the road, as it had a bad tendency to go airborne after 240 kmph! Top speed was 219 mph - do your math.

5. Muscle Cars - Dodge Charger General Lee

Pics: Salon Privé, the Luxury Supecar Event-dodge-charger-general-lee.jpg

Again not as spectacular as the previous car. This one is a movie star. It was the star of a show called Dukes of Hazzard.

Performance wise, its no pansy. 425 Bhp is nothing to be sneered at. And I absolutely love that clean fastback styling and those hidden headlamps.

6.Other cars

The other cars I've noticed are a Maserati Bora (Post 12, 3rd pic from top, red car behind the Countach) and a maroon De Tomaso Pantera (behind the AC Cobra). Very elegant 70's Italian coupes, practical and cheaper substitutes to the Lamborghini Miura. Also the red Ford Thunderbird seems to be a 57 Thunderbird, the first ever produced.

The de Tomaso Pantera is my fav among all these beauties..Its got this menacing, low, wide Lambo look. And the rear with its high set overhang, small lights and fat wheels is to die for!!
