Does an AMG-tuned Merc count as a production car? Cause by that logic, I once saw a Japanese garage tuned 1200 bhp Skyline GTR that was brought for show to New Zealand and did the quarter mile in 7.89sec.

Freaking 1200 horses...

They say the Koenigsegg CCR is the most powerful production car with 806bhp and 920nm. So, if the AMGs have 1000nm of torque, shouldn't it be given the record?
this is so because power and torque are two aspects of the same maths that determines how an engine performs ...

An engine produces torque (turning force) which can be measured ... power is calculated from torque and RPM that the torque is produced ...

hence , - Power = Torque x RPM (rotational speed)

That's what i'm saying. Power is a result of torque and rpm.

BHP = (torque * rpm) / 5252

Bhp = power and that is what makes a car powerful. Torque is just an ingredient.

Torque alone can't be termed as power, and when you calculate engine torque and engine rpm it finally ends up with Bhp.

Either ways, Bhp is the final product.

The moment you associate the "time" factor with torque, you're talking power/bhp.

A powerful car needs to have a high bhp figure. Whether it does it by producing less torque at high rpm or high torque at less rpm, it doesn't matter.

AMG is the performance division of Mercedes.it does not produce one car like that specially tuned Skyline, but produces several,so its cars do qualify as production vehicles.

to add to that BHP and HP is the same thing ...

the word "brake" is added because ..while measuring torque on the dynameter "brake" is applied at the flywheels ..

which gives rise to another question ... since BHP of a vehicle is measured on a Dynameter /at wheels ..hence say ,honda stating that a vtec has a 106bhp engine (instead of HP) is wrong since there is some amount of transmission loss ,thus leading to a smaller BHP figure ..this is so because the power delivered at the wheel (where it is measured by the dynameter ) is much less than the power delivered at the flywheel .. am i right in making such a statement ?

we should make a seperate thread out of this topic ..

Merve, you are right to large extent. Torque is indeed force. And Shan is right that Power is work done per second. Power is proportional to Torque*rpm. Diesels have more torque, so they can pull better, but they can't be revved higher, hence lack the power to reach high speeds. Torque makes it more drivable and provides acceleration.

hey
veyron may not be the most powerful car. check out the lotec sirius and orca sc7. if they are really production cars, then the veyron will have nothing to shout about

"The A to Z of technical terms" from autocar india defines torque as

'something totally different from power or BHP as torque doesn't have to necessarily produce motion'.
a lot more has been explained like torque converter, torque converter lock up clutch, torque curve, torque steer/reaction but doen't explain BHP so clearly.

isn't it a 'dynamometer'

hi turbo lover

i read an article from the "evo" magazine that said that sirius may go into production with an SL AMG engine. production will be 5 cars/yr.
Is the B.engineering "edonis" a production car ?

hi turbo
ya ,youre right. although sirius has been tested with 1200bhp engine, it will come with the 850bhp unit. so veyron still rules, powerwise. go to www.autoexpress.co.uk and search for lotec sirius.the 2nd article has all the info.
is it true that the veyron's speed has been limited to 350 instead of 400kph ?

the link needs registering so ididnt go through all that ..
but
what i know of the lotec is that it was tested on 1300 bhp engine and the torque figures were lower than that of the veyron ...

for the Orca only the 850 bhp was proposed ..
so as far as engine output figures is concerned Veyron tops them all ...

Quote:

yeah .. Veyron suffers from lack of stability trying to achieve such speeds .. they require racing slicks/ or high performance tyres to get their ...hence the production version has a speed limiter at 350..

Edonis went into production ..just 20 were built
it had the same engine as the EB110 ..
