Default ID:448; 1985 UMM Trans Cat

ID:448 is a Portuguese 1985 UMM Trans Cat
UMM stands for (União Metalo-Mecânica)

Like our own Manhindra and Mahindra, UMM was founded for manufacturing 4x4 vehicles for agricultural, industrial and utility applications.

The Trans Cat was powered by an Indenor-Peugeot 2.1 L Diesel engine exactly like the one that powers our MM-540-DP. The engine drives a Peugeot 4-speed manual gearbox.

Originally designed in France in 1960 by a local tractor-garage owner Bernard Cournil. He created a a multi-purpose utility which could double as a tractor. Courmil's target audience was the local farmers.

The original Cournil was very successful, and in 1970 its maker sold off the manufacturing rights.

The license passed through many hands, including the French SIMI. In 1978 a few SIMI Cournils were exported to the UK.

In 1978 União Metalo-Mecânica (UMM) of Portugal bought the licenses and plonked in Peugeot diesels. 1983-1986, it was called the UMM Trans Cat.

The Transcat was succeeded from 1986 and 1988, with the longer-wheelbase Alter I and in 1989, SMC picked up the franchise and intro'ed an improved Alter II.

@agspins: Well caught !
ID:450 is a 1988 ARO 10.

The ARO 10 debuted in 1980 in four markets simultaneously under the names:
  1. Dacia 10 in Romania,
  2. ARO Trapeurs in France,
  3. ARO Ischia in Italy and
  4. Dacia Duster in the UK.
It was powered by a 1,397 cc petrol engine that could push the little truck upto 118 km/h.

Although the wheels were small, the responsive yielding suspension -- double wishbones with coils at the front, and leaf springs at the rear gave good offroad performance. It had a shiftable transfer-case for part-time 4WD.

V16, Thanks for the info and apologies for the duplicate post. I was wondering how the same model can produced by different companies. These many models? . I am kinda confused!

Default Let's go back in time ...

ID:452 Should be easy, if one knows one's hood ornaments. Also, I think this marque has been featured in this thread earlier.

Cheers,
