It used to be made in India, by a company called Amar Toy who called the toy, "Minister Delux". Maybe ministers in India in the early sixties rode around in cars like this.

I played with one like this as a small boy in the early 1960s -- stuff little boy's dreams are made of.

ID:310 Any idea as to which real car, it was modeled on?

Hint: The turret-top aka greenhouse is inaccurate as it was intended to be a rugged li'l boy's toy, but the chrome identifies the car.

I cant be certain, but the ornametation on the bonnet and side tells me its a 1950 Pontiac Chieftan.

Friends, Methinks ID:310 is a 1954 Pontiac. Let me explain.

Late 1940s Pontiacs until and including the 1948 model year had pontoon fenders, front and rear.

The handsome 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak

Starting from 1949 the front pontoon fender merged into the body leaving the rear fender still separately discernible. Also in the 1949 model year, the chrome spear that started from the front wheel arch, ran the entire length of the car until the rear tail light.

1949 Pontiac Streamliner Deluxe

Also from 1949 onward, both the hood and trunk lid had five parallel chrome strips that ran along the centreline of the car. This feature was on Pontiacs from 1949 through 195X.

The radiator decoration for 1950 was a chrome-lined open mouth, with a chrome bar running from from right front wheel arch to left front wheel arch.

The chrome bar carried five evenly spaced vertical chrome bars.

For 1951 and 1952, the radiator decoration had the a chrome bar split in the centre and sweeping downwards towards the bumper.
In the space created was a large chrome "+" with a circular monogram.
1951 and 1952 grilles differed only in the upper lip treatment.

Now if you pay attention to the toy.

The chrome spear on the side runs just over the front wheel arch, parallel to the ground until it reaches the rear fender.

Then it traces the profile of the rear fender in a sweeping downward curve until it reaches the lower sill. Thereupon, it runs along the lower edge of the sill until it meets the rear bumper.

This feature was in the 1954 Pontiac.

The parking lamp is a long oblong shape.

The radiator decoration is a chrome-lined open mouth, with a chrome bar running from parking lamp to parking lamp.
The chrome bar splits in two after the bumper over-rider, runs as two bars that describe a long oval and reunite just before the other bumper over-rider.

Inside the long oval is a thin horizontal chrome bar and five evenly spaced vertical chrome bars.

This frontal treatment was typical of the 1954 Pontiac.

So, it's a 1954 Pontiac.

Yes speedy, the Americans called it a "fender-skirt" and the British called it a "spat" or "wing valance". It was basically a (sometimes contoured) plate designed to cover part of the wheel opening in the rear fender.

It was removable to allow access to change the wheel.

The whole objective was aerodynamics and aesthetics.
In the present times, the GM EV1 electric car and Honda Insight used fender-skirts for better aerodynamics.

thank you RAM . the fender skirt is far smaller than that on my car so you can hardly make it out in the picture.
