Looks awesome!
However cant see it launched here next couple of years. Indian people wont spend 10+ lac for a hatch for next 3-4 years atleast.

No way. Someone was saying it was priced at 16K in EU. So even if its CKD'd then the price still goes much above 11L

If it comes under 15 lacs and is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox, then sign me up. If it come in as a CBU and is priced around 18 lacs with a 7 speed DSG (which seems highly likely) then count me out.

There is a difference in saying, "sharing the platform" and "re-badged". I think you got mixed up with re-badged.

I second that. The Indian consumer is skeptical about paying so much for a hatch. That will be taking a huge risk. Moreover, I too feel that this car is not made for Indian roads. Audi will compensate that by releasing the VW Polo instead.

Earlier I thought, if they think of launching(rather sell) it in India, they might go the Fiat 500 or the VW Beetle way!!

But I just realized both the Fiat 500 and Beetle are iconic cars while the Audi A1 isnt!!! So I dont think they will launch in India unless they localize it at least 90%. May be in near future when buyers in India start accepting Luxury Segment small cars and the VW group's polo and other (if any) small cars prove themselves here, then I think Audi may start considering the A1 in India.

BTW, when Mercedes launched their A class in Europe they said they dont have any plans for an Indian launch of the A class!! They have B class too!!

Despite the obvious difference in size, the A3 shares its platform with the Octavia a.k.a. Laura as well as the VW Golf/Jetta. Just like how the Audi A4, the VW Passat and the Skoda Superb share a platform.

Well, there seems to be wild speculation about this car's Indian launch, but I beg to differ. This isn't coming to our shores anytime soon! No market for this car here.Yet.

Even if it does manage to sell a paltry sum,it'll be just because of the four ringed badge!

guys c'mon lets be realistic here, it wont be costing anywhere near 10 lacs for sure. We are paying 7.5 lacs for a Honda hatchback and this is Audi. If launched here, it should be between 13 to 16 lacs, for sure. On the pricing front it should compete with the civic, corolla, laura etc...

My speculation on the pricing was purely based on the platform that it shares with other VAG cars. I didn't compare it with cars that might or might not be competition.

Interesting design. Use of different colour running from A to C pillar is very innovative.

I feel they should have tried a new look for the front. THe big Audi grille seen on A8s and A6s is simply not working for such a small car.

And finally Justin Timberlake launched the A1 (audi's first city car)
at the Geneva Motor show
Geneva 2010: Audi A1 - Yahoo! Cars

Estimated cost: From around 13,000

The rear is very Q5ish, but stance is very un-audish, IMO.

Nice practical design. The rear seems to offer particularly decent amount of space. So the Mini has some serious competition then.
