World Car Of The Year Finalists Announced!

Possibly the most coveted of all the automobile awards, the World Car Of The Year finalists have been announced.

The awards to be presented at the New York Motor show next month will have votes from 59 international journalists counted to decided the final winner. The awards will be presented in four catagories:

World car of the year
Performance car of the year
Green car of the year.
‘Design’ car of the year

The finalists announced for the World Car of the year are – W212 Mercedes Benz E-Class, Toyota Prius and the European car of the year and the recently launched Volkswagen Polo hatchback.

The finalists for the world performance car of the year are – Audi R8 V10, Porsche 911 GT3 and the Ferrari California.

In the green catagory, the finalists for the Green Car of the year are – Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Volkswagen’s BlueMotion offerings.

The design finalists are Citreon C3 Picasso, Kia Soul and Chevrolet Camaro.

The winners will be announced on April 1st 2010 when the New York Auto show goes underway.

The new Polo seems to doing really well for Volkswagen notching up European car of the year awards as well.

By the way If I ask my fellow BHPians, what would be your car of the year among the three finalists announced?
My choice would be the Mercedes Benz E Class - It closes the gap to BMW 5 series when it comes to driving pleasure without loosing any of the core Mercedes values, ie cosssetting ride, refinement and the way it cocoons you from the outside elements. And then are the looks which are a perfect combination of sporty, elegant and understated and still carries on the E series identity.

Me too think that w212 will be the winner and there are chances that Polo might take the title by suprise.

One thing I'm sure of is, if the Polo wins the coveted World COTY award, it'll seriously boost sales in India.

World car of the year 2013 finalists announced. European and Japanese brands head the lists.

The finalists for the World Car of the Year awards have been announced, ahead of their reveal at the New York Auto Show on March 28th.
In the title category, jurors will have to select between:

• Audi A3
• Land Rover Range Rover
• Mazda6
• Mazda CX-5
• Mercedes-Benz A-Class
• Peugeot 208
• Porsche Boxster / Cayman
• Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT 86 / Toyota 86
• Volkswagen Golf
• Volvo V40

Likewise, the World Performance Car will be one of the following:

• Aston Martin Vanquish
• Audi RS 5
• BMW M6 Coupe / Convertible
• BMW M 135i
• Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
• Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG
• Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster
• Porsche Boxster / Cayman
• Renault Clio Sport
• Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT 86 / Toyota 86

The World Green Car of the Year will be selected from one of these five models:

• Renault Zoe
• smart Electric Drive
• Tesla Model S
• Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid
• Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid Diesel

Lastly, the World Car Design of the Year award will go to one of the following:

• Aston Martin Vanquish
• Renault Clio
• Jaguar F-Type
• Land Rover Range Rover
• Mazda 6
• Volkswagen Golf

A panel of 66 international automotive journalists will evaluate the cars on "merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal and significance." They will narrow the field to three finalists, before having a final vote to select the winners.

2013
For the WCOTY, forty two new cars were chosen from across the world as the initial entries, of which ten were shortlisted.

The finalists are Mercedes-Benz A-class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman (essentially different versions of the same car, one a coupe and the other a convertible), Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86/GT86 and the Volkswagen Golf.
