Default Spied: BMW 1 series M/ 135tii/ 135I-S

Spied! BMW readying entry-level 1-Series M

The rumors of an upcoming performance version of BMW’s 1-Series have been rampant for well over a year, with “sources” saying BMW would make an M1, while others said they wouldn’t. Whatever moniker BMW intends to use, our latest exclusive spy photos show that they certainly intend to use something to designate this wide-body 1-Series Coupe as a performance model above the 135i.

These spy photos clearly show off the wide-body fenders front and rear, despite the automaker’s attempt at hiding these qualities with psychedelic camouflage. There is also an aggressive front spoiler, larger wheels and massive brakes with drilled discs – all pointing to a 1-Series M.
While BMW itself has the subcompact premium market nicely covered with the twin-turbo, in-line six-cylinder 135i (and even the 123d for Europe) coupe, highly-placed sources insist the next-generation 1-Series will have a high-speed M flagship. Judging by our spy photos, it appears as if the sources may be leading on to the truth.
The baby M should line up against the next Audi S3, which would pitch its pricing at around the €35,000 mark in Europe, or probably $10,000 less than the next-generation M3 in North America.
With M now headed by former Mini brand manager Kay Segler, the idea of a hotter two-door has taken root in M division, with Segler insisting: “The priority right now is a more affordable model underneath the M3.”
It’s not likely to carry over the M3’s screaming V8 engine, though. Sources tell Leftlanethat it will probably develop the 135i’s straight-six to punch out around the 330 hp mark. Because the power increase is fairly marginal at 30 extra hp over the 300 hp BMW 135i, this 1-Series M product will likely not sport the traditional “M” badging. In addition to not quite being up to the level of standards typically associated with the M badging, there is also a historical naming conflict coming into play.
“The M1 name to us is a sacred thing for a car that marked an important turning point. It won’t be called the M1,” a source told Leftlane.
Instead, as many sources have suggested, this performance coupe may likely be known as the 1-Series M.

Isn't the trademark/ tell tale signs of a 'M' badge missing on this one? The side striations b/w the front wheel and the door hinge et al?

Isnt the 135tii always was the M version of the 1-series?They never named it M1 because of the original M1.

The looks and length are funny. Did they not try anything other than shrinking the 3 series?

I loved its Wheels and the BMW style headlights. The Tail lamp looks weird. Anyone noticed the distance between the body and the wheel ? This car looks like an low-rider car and will not work on Indian Roads.

The tii is a sort of a mid-way between the base series and the M models / a base series with M parts.

Yes, the 1 Series does look oddly proportioned but it drives great.
- they should have styled it better.

the rear tyre hint towards some serious power under the bonnet.

An oddball like most other Bimmers of today, yet much better and looks like fun to drive.

I just love this BMW 1series and think that BMW must bring this to India as the size is very suitable for Indian traffic conditions.

Absolutely! I'm sure it will do really well here. The size is perfect.

Default BMW confirms the "Pocket Rocket" 1 series M?

Pheww! Finally, BMW speaks about the much awaited M version of the 1series. If they plan to launch it in India, I'm sure it will out sell the new kid Evo by a humongous margin. Bring it on !

BMW 1-Series Coupe news - BMW confirms ?1-Series M? - 2010 - BBC Top Gear

Top Gear -
If you're a fan of the original E30 BMW M3 - and if you're not, you really should be - this will come as very good news.
BMW has confirmed that it will build a ‘M' version of the 1-series coupe. We'd call it an M1, but then it might get confused with the mid-engined supercar of the late 70s. Let's go with 1-Series M Coupe.
Speaking in an official BMW interview, M Division boss Kay Segler said: "It is one of my most urgent goals to offer a small, affordable M model in the tradition of the very first BMW M3.
"This model will be based on the BMW 1Series Coupe and also be focused on the essentials, the fascination of driving."
The M3 reference is a vital one. The current M3, which produces 414bhp from its 4.0-litre V8 and weighs in at nearly 1,700kg, is a world away from the 1986 original, which had a four-cylinder engine producing just under 200bhp but tipped the scales at just 1,200kg.
A lighter, zippier 1-Series M Coupe could be a mighty thing. BMW hasn't hinted at any technical details, but it's interesting to consider how it'll fit in alongside the current 135i Coupe, which develops 302bhp from its twin-turbo straight-six.
Chasing any more power than that would seem to go against Segler's ‘small, affordable... and in the tradition of the very first BMW M3' philosophy - so could BMW opt for less power and less weight than the 135i?
Imagine a lightened, back-to-basics 1-Series Coupe, producing, say, 250bhp from a four-cylinder or naturally aspirated six. Not madly fast, but a pure, rear-drive sports car. Tempting, innit?

@zohaib, Not M1, 1-M-Coupe. The M1 is the legendary sports car from a few decades ago.
