I dno't know if it's just me but I've always felt that Hyundai gets the design, pricing and quality of their cars right but not the handling. For eg: I despise the over sensitive brakes in the Verna and the oversteer in the EPS of the i10. Anyone else feel the same?

Who gives a hoot if the design is copied or inspired!

Hyundai makes solid, reliable cars. Best warranty, top class features, good performance and great looking cars at a very reasonable price.

The new Sonata already has experts and common junta drooling at what a complete package it offers. Toyota was once a newcomer too...Hyundai is definitely upping the ante...and I am sure I m not the only who finds this South Korean company's attitude most refreshing!

if this car is 1.6 then what happens to Accent/Verna?

this car should be a lot more than just a sissy 1.6?

I just came across this car ( i don't know how i missed it) but i think it's going to be absolutely brilliant in the flesh. With Hyundai's ever improving reliability, and keen pricing, i think this will really be hyundai's big winner, which will make people in india take Hyundai as a more upmarket brand. I dont know what the next generation civic is going to look like but if it doesn't match up to the Avante, i'd be disappointed. I don't know why but the headlights kind of remind me of the Ferrari 458 Italia. I know that's stretching it but clearly i'm in love.

The problem is that till date Hyundai has been struggling with the sale of the C+,D segment and SUVs no matter how good a product they were. With i20 Hyundai has managed to change the public perception of paying close to a million rupees for a Hyundai hatch back, this could very well be the foundation on which this car might sell. Im not too positive but then i20 was an exception as well. Also the impending launch of the completely new Verna could solidify the Hyundai image as a manufacturer of premium cars.

Very true. Hyundai WAS struggling to sell cars above 8-10 lacs. I guess its because of an image problem, just like Maruthi. But yes, the 1st gen sonata in India was a pathetic car.

Lets hope i20 was not just an exception and Hyundai gives us some great value cars.

Came across news that officially the new 2011 Avante is released.

Source : 2011 Hyundai Avante revealed | Autocar India

Article :

Quote:
The all-new Hyundai Avante 2011, also known as the Elantra, will make its debut in the first week of August 2010. South Korea will be the first market where Hyundai will launch the 2011 Avante.

Hyundai has released new pictures and details of the car. The 2011 Elantra (Avante for Korean Market) is powered by an all-new Gamma 1.6-liter Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine producing 140bhp at 6300 rpm while churning out a maximum torque of 17.5 kgm. The new engine will drive through a 6-speed manual ‘box which as per the manufacturer will return economy figures of 17kpl.

The manufacturer has also added advanced features of which some maybe model specific. The new Elantra will get Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) where the car parks itself by automatically controlling the steering wheel. Additional features like HID (High Intensity Discharge) head lamps, LED tail-lamps and heated rear seats will also be on offer.

The 2011 Elantra will be launched in the first half of next year, however there is no news on a diesel power plant as yet. We expect Hyundai to launch the car in both petrol and diesel variants to make it a potent competitor to the likes of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis and Skoda Laura. However there are speculations of two more petrol units, a 1.6-litre GDI and a more powerful 2.0-litre unit, which will be coupled with both six speed manual and automatic transmission options.
EDIT :
The 4th generation elantra was launched in 2006. This is the 5th genenration Elantra that will be available in 2010. That is approximately 4 years. So in 4 years flat Hyundai is up and running with a new model. Mostly the development of this car started back in 2006 or 2007 just after the launch of 4th generation Elantra.
That is some quick work.

Even the engine is updated. If the 140 bhp mark is without any turbo, then its around 87.5 bhp/ltr. Very nice. Compare that the 144/160 bhp turbo version of BMW-PSA Peugeot Citroen 1.6 that is winning some segment of international engine of the year awards. Though I am not sure about the Korean horses. 1.4 in i20 and 1.6 in SX4 make almost similar power, SX4 clearly has more practical shape and is heavy. But still 1.6 performs well enough at high speeds. I know more than one factor is involved, but still an on glance comparison this is.

This brings me to Coralla. The current Corolla was launched in 2006. This 10th generation Toyota Corolla was an evolution of the 9th generation Corolla. But even now there are no news of 11th generation Corolla. Corolla is all set to loose in International markets if the cars are not upgraded. Agreed that Toyota is not master of copy cat, but they had more than sufficient time IMO.
Both, Camry and Corolla are in need of replacement.

if this Avante / new Elantra comes to India , it would be the most radically-different looking car and probably the most futuristic designed car after the current Civic.

is there a post on Hyundai's line-up of future launched ?

The all-new Elantra has been officially unveiled, it is going to be powered by 1.8L petrol engine producing 148bhp@6500rpm and a torque of 178Nm@4700rpm. Hope Hyundai launches the elantra in India ASAP, it is definitely going to give some sleepless nights for its competitors in the D-segment.
