Default Next gen 3-series renders.

This is the next generation 3 series(F30) renders as reported by Indian Auto Blog.
To be launched in 2011 Geneva Motor show.
Engines expected are turbocharged engines from 1.6 to 2.0L.
Also the inline 6 3.0L with 306bhp and 400nm of torque will be available.

IMO looks front looks nice and has atleast that aggressiveness of a BMW design, but rear is too generic.

Why BMW wants to go with those straight line LED's in 3 series. Why cant BMW use the same concept used in the new X3, having those Corona ring LED's for daytime running lights . They look awesome and not copied from other manufacturers.

I think this version boasts both, the LED's as well as the corona ring. You can make that out from the picture

My three pfennigs :

The design is not earth shattering, it seems neutral, designed not to turn off potential buyers ( 25-35 year old execs in the West, a little older perhaps in India, some preferring to be driven). BMW is, as most auto majors are, downsizing engines but increasing the maximum power and torque and increasing tractability - so turbo 1.6 to 2.0 liters are par for the course.

What is interesting is the inclusion of the in line sixes ( part of the BMW legend) with a 3 liter version. Hope they provide inline sixes for oil burners too, in the 3 litre capacity or thereabouts, for petrol and diesel heads.

For success in India, rear leg room will be important. 3 Series will likely be used by our desi corporate types, possibly as a statement.

Regards

I used to just hate Chris Bangle for his designs(except the E60)
But now miss him,the beemers have gone characterless. Except the new 7 series and X1,remaining look plain jane.

As long as the 3 remains true to its philosophy - a driver's car, and a wolf in sheep's clothing, at least I am not going to lose sleep, worrying about how it looks.

If it gets the same combo of exhilarating handling with reasonable ride and is stabler through corners vis-avis the comparable Merc or Audi, it is fine.

A little comfort at the rear would certainly help, though.

(This is India after all - even a petrolhead's car needs to double up as a family car, with enough room for the groceries!)

And BMW has been listening.

Regards

Speaking of Chris Bangle, have any of you seen the BMW Gina? I got to say, it is the weirdest yet coolest car I have ever seen, although I hate the way the doors wrinkle.

Yep @issigonis- As long as the core things remain the same. Even though highly unlikely,i hope BMW doesn't do a 5-er on the 3-er.
The target market of both are hugely different, but still EPS in the name of BMW efficient dynamics means....
@LowandSlow- remember seeing the concept car of BMW made of cloth in some auto mags. (The gear knob vaguely resembles something unprintable here.)

HAHAHA!! I didn't even notice that untile you mention it! I got to say, I wonder what was going the Mr. Bangle's head when he designed it!

Also, I also just noticed, is it just me, or does this car vaguely resemble the Z4?

Absolutely the first thing that came to my mind. What kind of a ten year cycle is this, wherein one designer gives every model its own identity, and then the next guy comes back and paints everything with the same shade of grey?
