US President Barack Obama's 2005, Chrysler 300C has appeared on eBay for auction. He used this car for 19,000 miles (2004-2007) as a Senator from Illinois. The first time the car was listed on the auction website was three years ago and at that time phony bids pushed the price up to $1 billion and the auction was pulled. The opening bid on the current auction is $1 million.(Source Old Cars Weekly, US)

Incidentally, the President visited the Chrysler plant recently after Chrysler Motors under CEO Sergio Marchionne's leadership, could repay the government loan prematurely. The CEO quipped that this is the best publicity he could ever hope for !
The personally owned 300C and the visit shows the President's like for brand Chrysler.

Volkswagen has reported record profits for 2011.The net profit was 15.799 billion Euros ($21.2 billion) in 2011, up from 7.266 billion Euros in 2010. Deliveries the company says topped the 8 million mark at 8.265 million vehicles.
That puts it ahead of Toyota. VW says that by 2018 it hopes to overtake GM.

European car makers are struggling to stay afloat due to the recessionary trends. The aberration is about the overcapacity and underused factories cannot be ignored by European car makers in a fast-shrinking domestic market. The government austerity measures, burgeoning unemployment and deepening of Southern Europe's recession are all playing spoilsport for car makers.Any axe in European car factories would mean job losses. There are too many cars and too many brands making similar cars.Consolidation of brands and closed plants the report predicts will soon be realities.
GM and PSA Peugeot Citroen have last week announced a strategic partnership, with GM getting a 7 % stake for US $ 1.32 billion in the French company to build a new synergy in tune with the market needs..They plan to develop a common small car platform by 2016. This is just the beginning.
The governments are also in no mood to come up with incentives to scrap old cars just to buoy up new car sales to keep the car makers running. The GM- Peugeot partnership goes beyond the conventional tie-ups and the plan is here to gain efficiencies by combining technology, chassis and production facilities. In fact Peugeot a family held company sold 3.5 million cars last year, but reported accumulated losses to the tune of 439 million Euros.

The theft of diesel in Germany in rampant especially from parked trucks. The thieves carry drills to drill holes into the plastic tanks of trucks that have a nearly 1000 litre capacity. They also break open the caps. With a pump the diesel is stolen and emptied into the tank of the vehicle the thieves use.
The remedy lies in the newly invented alarms that are put on, when the fuel tank level drops even with the ignition key switched off.

A fire incident on 31/03/2012 in a chemical plant in Western Germany, that closed it down and went unnoticed has now created some serious ramifications and roadblocks in the international automobile industry. Two people had died in the fire.
The shock waves travelled beyond the Atlantic and its effects are now being felt even by big companies like GM.The chemical, a resin termed as cyclododecatriene, or CDT (code named PA-12) or polyamide-12 – a resin also known as nylon-12, is an important component in the braking and fuel systems of cars. Evonik Industries, Germany met almost 25% to 50 % of the world's requirements. The supplies are likely to be affected for three months. Car makers are conducting meetings to arrive at some solutions, as they see the conditions getting out of hand.

The Fiat subsidiary Iveco is planning to focus more on its German production. It also says plants in Austria, France and some in Germany but for the one in Ulm may be closed.

Another link here shows a Mercedes 350CLS ( worth Euros 70,000) with members of the Bandidos gang getting involved in an accident killing all occupants, but the driver. The drivers legs had to be amputated to save him from the wrecked car debris. The ABS, EBD and airbags get no mention here on this link. I am wondering about the reviews that spoke about this car's "battle tank like build quality."

Opel sales are dipping even in its homeland. The turnover went down 15 % during the first half of 2012, which is lower than the industry average. Thomas Sedran will now head Opel. GM also says that it will usher in brand "Chevrolet" into Europe to overcome the dropping sales.

That's a funky website. I liked the concept. On second thoughts doesn't the new Note look a bit like the Evalia? I wish they bring cars like that to India.
