Default Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Starting the thread with this one a fairly recent event: Rescue package (taxpayers dollars) for the ailing Big Two, GM and Chrysler of the USA in 2008. A brief book review giving factual details about how the recipe for disaster was written. Remember the news about top honchos of Chrysler and GM coming down Washington D.C. in 2008, to discuss the aid package on their private jets, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of company funds. The book:

Overhaul: An Insider's Account of The Obama Administration's Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry!

Things to Know About Cars - NYTimes.com

And this one is news from November 5, 1895,about the first automobile manufacturer Selden in the US of A.

Nov. 5, 1895: First U.S. Automaker Gets Off to Slow Start

This is good viewing on the USA Today website:

And for solving parking woes watch out this link:

Wöhr Parking Systems - Wöhr Multiparker 730 - Budapest, Hungary

Lets hope our congested metros and cities get something like this!

This one about investment in Classic Car buys:-

5 Tips for Investing in Classic Cars - Financial Web

The website statements are from some investor who dabbles in the stock market and wants to diversify into classic cars. His or her knowledge about classic beauties is very poor as can be observed from the way his thoughts are put forth. The investment practice is quite prevalent in Western countries and is quite catching up there.
I think its only a minority of buyers in India who invest in purchases of vintage and classic cars/bikes, do so for investment and returns in the short or long term. Many of us as a majority, love the old beauties to be owned and nurtured.

And how about this one?It says "Next time you’re stuck in traffic, take the time to count the number of silver and gray cars on the road. Odds are, you are seeing more than ever."

The most popular color for cars: Silver? | Chicago Breaking Business

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/05...nt-maker-says/
((PPG stands for Pittsburg Plate Glass Inc, USA, a paint maker)

The silvery and grey facts may be true for India too. Silver outsells other colours I am sure. And the dust is conveniently camouflaged by the paint.

Great thread idea, Anjan. Let me share some of my frequent int'l reads:

- The Truth About Cars : Great editorials, some of them are truly thought-provoking.

- NSX Files : Awesome stories by everyday car guys. Their experiences with the Honda NSX, S2000, Ferraris, go-karts etc. written in a very 1-on-1 informal way.

- Benz World = A+ info, especially on old Mercs

- Derek's CJ3B Page - Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) you need to know about the iconic CJ3B.

A slip up in that article:

Mahindra has put the Italian, Spanish and Polish markets on notice to expect an Aria in their area “within a year.”

Another good one! This one lists the most expensive classic cars- the topper, the second and the third ones are Ferraris. The fourth is a Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. They have undoubtedly missed the Bugatti Royale which should have topped the list.

The world?s most expensive classic cars
