That was why Schumacher was a sitting duck when Jenson made that DRS move.

The interesting part is how the ECU engine mapping restriction will affect the front running teams in qualifying.

Let us wait and watch.

Cheers!

Not really. the activation zone is just after the hairpin (turn 10) leading to the back straight.. at the end of which Button overtook MS.

True, but due to double DRS zone, button's flap was open further and he extended his lead.

Button was much quicker than MS, would not have mattered

Will it become a more level playing field with engine mapping being banned between qualy and the race? Probably not, but when combined with the exit of blown diffusers come Silverstone, it might just work in favour of teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and maybe even Renault.

Of course Button was quicker, if not DRS or track was not that dry MS could have easily defended his position. It was the last SC that spoiled his chance. He was catching SV at that point of time.Even if Button was quicker he will not open a gap of 11 sec in 5 laps without the help of double DRS zone. He puled almost 5 sec lead after DRS zone itself. Advantage of DRS for driver overtaking and disaster for the driver who is been overtaked. Ultimately there was problem with MS's KERS too.

Ok leave it , let us focus on Valencia now. How the second leg of championship will unfold? Who will gain and who will loose with recent ban on engine mapping and total ban on BD from next race.

Cheers!

The reason why Button took so long to overtake MS was that offline it was still wet (so much less grip), thats why the effect of DRS was minimized.
(Recall what happened to Massa with Karthikeyan)
In a dry race Button would have easily overtaken MS.

Once Button overtook MS he could not use DRS remember. He can use DRS twice only for 1 lap (the lap he overtook)

Appreciate your admiration of the man but lets be objective and not fanboys.

Lets discuss Valencia - I think the Bulls might not get pole but they will be extremely strong during the race. It will be a lot closer to McLaren however

In my previous post I already mentioned that let us concentrate on Valencia. No point in comparing apples with oranges (McLaren with Mercedes). That was not a fanboy perspective. That was one driver making maximum out of what he had in hands.

That is what I mentioned earlier. In that single lap/move Button had opened 5 sec window over MS.

Massa plzzz wake up ! hope the Medium compound tyres work for him.The twin DRS is a bane for Ferrari and Mercedes. Mcl and RB's will be flying.

I agree the bulls might not be on pole, Hamilton stands a good chance

My take for qual
1. Hamilton
2.vettel
3. Alonso
4 Webber
5 Button
6 Massa

Alonso takes the chequered flag in the race. (fingers, toes crossed !!!)

Lightbulb Re: F1 2011 - European Grand Prix VALENCIA

Massa says the the new Pirelli medium tyre for Valencia is similar to the hard tyre used earlier this year.

If that's the case, then Ferrari looks to have a difficult Sunday unless they find a way to make the 'harder' compound work. Remember the other GP in Spain this year and how the hard tyre made it difficult for Ferrari.

Looking forward, desperately, for a Lewis Hamilton Victory here!

If the Engine Re-Mapping Ban does affect RedBull's Qualifying Performance adversely, then the rest of the Season will be a little more interesting to watch!

The new suspension tested in Canada will be on the Ferrari in Valencia. The team said the new suspension match their figures from simulator.

Mclaren + DRS on a drying track was much faster than Mercedes, Button was not faster than MS. There's a difference. In the past 2 seasons, MS has been able to keep Button behind on many occasions even with an inferior car at his disposal.

Getting back on topic : I predict another Vettel win, with Hamilton hounding him from lap 1 to the chequered flag ! Mercedes will fall behind Renault this race and will be struggling to get into the points IMO.
