Default Korean GP 2011: Determined Hamilton takes Pole

Finally, the Red Bulls are grounded from their extended "flying" session this season, at least for Saturday. Here's hoping Hamilton demonstrates, come Race Day, what he's capable of and sets a good precedent for a non-Red Bull dominated 2012. Amen!

Great job by Hamilton!

However, the Bulls have an extra set of fresh softs for tomorrow and the tire war could decide the winner for tomorrow's race!

Its better not to go conservative against Red Bull and allow Vettel the pole. If he gets a head start catching him becomes nigh impossible.

On the other hand if he's between cars and under pressure, its a different ball game all together. Its best to keep him vulnerable.

What happened to Hamilton? Dont see any excitement on his face after securing the pole, he looks disappointed rather

That's because
1. McLarens are now superior to Red Bull (when the title race is over, good job McLaren!) so a pole from him was expected.
2. He knows very well that at Korean GP, pole means nothing this year.

Superior is an extremely over optimistic word to use! The Bulls went the conservative way to save tires for tomorrow's race. Their pace on SS in Q1 and an attempt on the used SS in Q3 was all for saving tires for tomorrow's race.

Pole means nothing anyway, but then the excitement of being on pole is completely missing. He was staying away from Vettel & Button as well during the post qualifying photo shoot!

Honestly, it is a relief to see someone else on pole. This season has had its moments but not even close to the excitement of the last few seasons.

Hamilton has grabbed pole. The big question is if he can look after his tyres. Vettel nearly put Button in the grass at the start of the last race so he might look to return the favour, starting from the clean side of the track.

Both the Sahara Force Indias in the top 10. How good is that!

Title race is over and people are bashing him for his accident prone driving. Must have taken out all enthusiasm out of him. He is still quite young and is used to having fun. Now he is very bored and just looking to wrap up this season as quickly as possible, IMO.

And it is Vettel again!

Superb 1st lap from Vettel.

1) Vettel
2) Hamilton
3) Webber

Red Bull win the Constructor's Championship.

What a year for Red Bull!

SFI only one point.
Toro Rosso are suddenly hot, they are not too far from SFI-they picked up 8 points.

Normalcy returns. Vettel by a mile. McLaren & Ferrari would have to do something extra ordinary to catch this man next year. The Hamilton-Webber duel was good to watch. Lewis looked terrific when he applied his head, having kept a charging Webber behind.

A decent drive from Alonso as well, catching up with the pack towards the end. Torro Rosso looked strong too, but their performance tends to see-saw at different types of circuits. Hopefully, Sahara Force Indias will get the better of them in 2 weeks time!

McLaren have work to do. Their race trim was sub-optimal as seen today, and the rain hit friday may have to take some blame. However, I rate this drive from Hamilton as almost as good as a win to keep a clearly faster Red Bull of Webber behind for the good part of 20 laps. Please remember that he had to contend with a continuously DRS using Webber while he couldn't use his (except to get back his position from Webber towards the end, once).

Also, I think Alonso would have easily finished fourth, ahead of the "gentle" Button and perhaps launched a challenge for podium if the "bullock cart" driven by Massa had not kept him behind for so long. I really think that Massa being the second Ferrari driver is a criminal waste of an aspirational F1 seat which many substantially more talented drivers will give their right arm for.

Kobayashi for Ferrari, what say?

1. Looks like Force India has got a headache named Torro Rosso. Who knows they might catch up with Sauber but get overtaken by Torro Rosso in title race.

2. Hamilton has showed that he can do a lot better if his head is not swollen.

3. I simply can't evaluate Massa's performance. He is really bad at getting fast and overtaking but really good at blocking others from overtaking him.

Can't say anything because there are so many talented drivers out there. Paul di Resta and Nico Rosberg for example. But seeing that they run on Mercedes engines, they are more suitable for McLaren than Ferrari. So yeah, Kobayashi might be fit for a seat at Ferrari.

Isn't Sauber closer to FI in terms of points?

Oh! I had not realized that FI had overtaken Sauber in constructors championship. I kept forgetting their 12 points haul at Singopore GP.
