The silly season is firing on all cylinders now.

Arguably two guys who can do the mix are Lewis and the Schum.

If the Schum chooses to retire, Merc will be interested in Lewis. Norbert Haug is very close to Lewis and that bond would continue. Brawn should be happy to have a world champion again.

It might be a bigger problem for McLaren for a potential replacement - Kimi, Bottas, Heiki - everyone will be interested to drive for McLaren other than Ferrari & RBR boys. Good idea to call Mika from his hibernation ???

Spare a thought for Bruno, Pertrov...

All that happened during post race and the rocket red team snap indicates that discussions on contract extension are really murky for McLaren and Hamilton.
Me thinks Lewis is on his way out of McLaren and if that is, it might be a stupid move. Ron was stone faced most of the times.

Apparently Kovalainen is in talks for 2nd seat at Ferrari. I am not sure how that is a step up from Massa. He might be more motivated than Massa who seems to have lost motivation. But he was beaten to the ground by Hamilton, so would he be any better?

According to another article at GPUpdate, Alonso is against Perez taking the 2nd seat. Afraid of a little competition, Alonso?

^^And apparently Perez is a bit too young for Ferrari - according to Luca di Montezemolo

Even I feel that Perez for Ferrari for 2013 would be a no go. There are strong rumors (or are they facts) that Vettel is on for Ferrari from 2014 and given Alonso also has a running contract, that'd mean the replacement driver only gets one year. Don't think Ferrari would like to waste a home grown talent like that.
If the Vettel news is true, I think Massa could just hang on to Ferrari for another season. He 'maintains his tires' as per their liking, has a good home base in Brazil and knows the team well.
But this hypothesis is based on Vettel moving to them in '14.

Alonso seems to be asking for a weaker driver.

Quote:
With any of these names you have, you must compare what Felipe has achieved in Formula 1 with what they have done…we need to respect the team’s decision, but I do think that any driver would also have to respect Ferrari and its traditions
So Alonso, what are Ferrari's traditions? Clear No. 1 & No. 2? Fight for WDC while sacrificing WCC?

Well, since Lewis has been confirmed at Mercedes, what happens to MS?

http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/2...ture-in-doubt/

From his statement, it doesn't look like he's in a mood to quit. Maybe 1 year deal at Ferrari? He might still do a better job than Massa.

Very true, As the confirmations are now certain about the

Mclaren - Lewis :- BITTER DIVORCE
Mercedes - Lewis : - MARRIAGE
Mclaren - Perez :- MARRIAGE
Sauber - LEFT IN A LURCH
Ferrari - CHEESED WITH MASSA
Other drivers - WITH ACTIVE CONTRACTS
Schumacher :- UNCONFIRMED

The Silly Season is infact getting much more silly with all the developments.

http://www.flagworld.com/news/2012/0...nt/#more-81616

Lot of excitement will be seen in the next few days, These developments certainly seems to have worked in Schumacher's favour. Only time will tell whats in store.

The LEGEND might not just go out without a last HURRAH.

Steering away from Lewisgate..

Caterham might have a problem in their hands now, they have been beaten by Marussia . Both their drivers may be out next year and that will be a problem. If this happens who can step into the shoes of Kovi & Petrov:
1. Adrian Sutil - he is still trying to get in
2. Jaime Algusuari
3. Narain Karthikeyan - I think he will be out of HRT this year with their new found chinese interest.
4. Nick Heidfeld

I don't think NK has a chance there. Actually depends on how much money they need.

Scoop is that Heikki K is getting out of Caterham as well...All the indications from the Caterham garage !
http://www.f1zone.net/news/signs-sug...-ending/15996/

Is he Williams or Sauber bound ?

With so much of traction now (on driver movement) - can our thread be still called silly season ??? I think I'll need to rename it to something else !

My sixth sense is saying Grosjean is on the way out, after his umpteenth first corner shenanigans in his second race, after one race ban. Like Sutil was quietly ushered out of Formula One after his Shanghai shenanigans, Grosjean is also likely to be escorted quietly out. Formula One would not like to admit that they gave a license to a guy unwilling to take the responsibility of a F1 driver.

Massa's performance today could preserve his seat at Ferrari, if he drives as well the rest of the season.
