Great news - its very heartening to see motorsports picking up in our country. Dhoni is an apt celebrity to associate with bike racing gven his well documented passion for bikes .
I feel that passion for raw engineering also has to move in step in India for this sport to actually take to grass roots level . The other day I was watching a finnish cross country race on TV and it was just awesome to see the mods made to the cars in pursuit of speed and control

Good to hear MSD investing in a racing team. This will improve the overall image of and popularity of motorsports in India.

I only wish he could help out our indigenous riders by giving them a spot on an International team with the right backup of finances and technologies. What Sarath Kumar has undergone is a shame and he deserves better. Maybe MSD can now help him get the rightfully deserved boost in his career.

This maybe a blessing in disguise if all goes well. I hope it doesnt turn out to be another force india. All fingers crossed

While I applause the effort by MSD (& am not being critic), he should as well sponsor few races & rides (at least bug TVS/Exide etc).

Get to know International Racing (its completely on different level & precisely the reason that despite having talent, Sarath couldn't make much inroads) and at the same time buck up boys at MMSC, Kari & BIC. The way Mr. Reddy does.

Motorsports is looking good with Mahindra into motogp, our won F1 track and Indian owned F1 team and now Dhoni to launch his own team, I guess we are not far off for WRC to come into India as well.

Its nice to see Dhoni reaching out to a new segment that's untapped in India and did not start another cricket camp

Default Dhoni unveils Mahi Racing

Indian cricket's captain cool, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is known for his passion towards bikes, fast ones especially. And he took this association further when he formed a team that took part this season in the Supersport FIM World Championship. The team was called MSD R-N Racing Team India and despite entering only mid-way in the season pulled off some strong performances in the 600cc class including a podium finish. And now the team has undergone a change, in riders, in identity and in their targets.

Mahi Racing team India, as the team will now be called, has announced the signing of three-time and reigning world Supersport champion Kenan Sofouglu and Fabien Foret who finished fourth in the championship. Foret has won the title in 2002 and also has 24 podium finishes to his credit. The team also has a new logo and based on their form exhibited in the recently concluded season, and with Sofouglu in the saddle are aiming to challenge for the title in the Supersport category next season.

Boosting Mahi Racing's chances will be the fact that Dhoni's team will be factory team of Kawasaki and so they can expect maximum support in terms of technology. Apart from the two main riders, Mahi racing has also signed Dan Linfoot and Fabian Marino. The riders will be testing the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R during the official winter testing season. With the SBK making its debut in the Buddh International Circuit next season, you can expect a lot of support for Dhoni's team from the country.

Arun Pandey, chairman and managing director of Mahi Racing said that the team's performance this season had helped them take the next step forward. We were targeting mid-table finishes to form a base for the next year. But the team put up a sterling performance and created history by pulling off a podium finish after just five rounds. Our rider Dan Linfoot finished a remarkable third at Magny Cours, France. Our crew did an outstanding job by setting up the team within such a short time, Pandey said during the event.

Dhoni also announced his intention of setting up 2 riding school in India with the aim of helping Indian riders break into the international arena. Sources say that the team is considering setting up the school in BIC and at the MMST track in Chennai. All of this only translates into good news for the Indian racing fraternity.

Is cricket all over for Dhoni? How much of his personal time will be invested in running this business venture?

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, its good for motor sports but maybe bad for Cricket, or is it? With so much money flowing through Cricket its good to see it wisely invested in some other sports.

Frankly speaking, this might just be a good move on Dhoni's part. While he loves bikes, why not invest in something that might just turn out to reap good rewards for him in the future. (if not, he can always play cricket for an extra year and cover up ) And at the same time it might really do some real good for the sport in India.

Regarding Dhoni's personal time towards this venture, I am sure he will have enough help to run the venture in the beginning !! And later once he thinks of retiring from Cricket, he will have something AWESOME to take care of !!

Finally someone planning for a future. Great move. Wishing him all the success.

I am sick an tired of retired cricketers hogging the commentary box and boring us to death with cliches.

In words of a (in)famous commentator:

This is just what the doctor ordered.
Hoping to see a cracker of a contest.
The other teams will be taken to the cleaners.
Now I feel that this one could go all the way down to the wire.
At this stage, all four results are possible
The Mahi racing team raced to the finish line faster than a tracer bullet.

And finally on behalf of everyone here:
Have a good one, Dhoni!

Dhoni loves his bikes so much - surely this business is something he will enjoy. He is also pretty knowledgeable when it comes to bikes. Will hold him in good stead after 5 years when he retires from cricket.

The guy is a true biker and has so many awesome bikes but his car collection is pretty average. Does not look like he likes them cars much - might change now that he has a family.

Interestingly another sports star, Micheal Jordan also has a passion for bikes and has a team called Jordan Racing running in AMA series in the US.
