Mercedes admits that they would issue team orders if competition catches up!

Toto Wolff says they may need to adapt if their rivals catch up.

Quote:
"There might be situations where you can't lose lots of time in battle if you have your enemy right up your back," he said.

"Bahrain was a very particular situation because our package worked very well there and we had quite a competitive advantage, so it's easier to take a decision for the sake of racing because you know you have quite a margin to the guy in third place.

"The narrower that margin gets, the more you have to look out.

"Our rule is that the competition is enemy number one, not your team-mate, so there might be situations in the race where you have to consider that, but we will see what happens."
Source

Given how the season has started, Mercedes is likely to be assured the WCC by mid season and they might not have to look after the interests of the team from then on.

A good read from a recent interview with Max Mosley looking back at Imola 1994.

Quote:
"That (Imola weekend) was the catalyst for change on the roads that has literally, without question, saved tens of thousands of lives," he said in an interview at his London home.

"It is the truth. Without that catalyst, we would never have gone to Brussels. We would never have the Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme), the crash testing, we wouldn't have got the legislation through the European Commission that has upped the standards of safety.

"You know thousands of people walking around, happy, alive, uninjured would be dead if it weren't for what was done. And all of that started with Ayrton's accident. That to me, when I sit down in my rocking chair in another few years, is the thing that really matters."

The new issue of F1 Racing has an interesting piece on McLaren. It says, Ron Dennis acually signed Magnussen on his own without Whitmarsh's knowledge, while Perez had already been told and contracted for 2014.

Whitmarsh was powerless as the Mclaren engineers too felt K Mag would be quicker than Perez and cheaper, so did not fight it.

That was Ron's first step to come back into power.

I love Brawn to return to Maranello, but isn't that a bit too early? Mattiacci delivered on his first outing as a team principal too.

The European rounds start this weekend and the performance at Barcelona will be key.

I really hope he comes back and puts the team back together. But Ron would be more desperate to have someone like Brawn in Woking.

Since there isn't much activity on this thread, here are my predictions for the driver's championship top 8

HAM
ROS
RIC
VET
ALO
BOT
HUL
RAI

Kimi is slowly making his way up the ladder while Alonso is coming down the ladder since RBR is clearly the best of the rest and way ahead of Ferraris. Force India and Williams could be impaired by their limited budget for in-season development and eventually Kimi might finish ahead of them in the races but the small difference in points between P6-P10 wouldn't help him much in covering ground to the consistent performers. As it is, Bottas seems to be able to extend his tyres a lot more than others while still setting respectable times and could benefit from the choice of different pit stop options.

The current standing in the constructors could remain unchanged till the end of the season with Merc-RBR-Ferrari taking the top 3 slots followed by Force India, Williams and McLaren. Lotus could overtake Toro Rosso if Renault doesn't stop supplying engines to them due to outstanding payments. Rest of the list could also remain as it is.

Thoughts?

You might get few changes on the RBR front, you don't know when Gremlins will strike Ricciardo and Vettel is slowly getting the car work to what he wants.
For me the most important part of the race was after the race - Kimi's rants. He is fighting !! Unlike the aloof ice cream eating ice-man that he was earlier, Kimi is working very closely with Ferrari and challenging Fernando.

I just hope the Ferrari guys give him a good car and he will come back stronger.

Ferrari has infact changed the plan of Alonso testing today & tomorrow in Catalunya. Kimi will be testing on both the days for Ferrari.
