Why shock horror?
That's probably the most powerful diesel car entered into a race(correct me if I am wrong).
The age of diesel's is upon us!!

Not really a shock! Lets see...more torque + better fuel consumption = success in an endurance race.

Not to mention an unlimited budget for development and already a proven winning package with the 3-time Le Mans winning R8 & Bentley too. Saves a lot of work on Chassis & Aero development.

So I can take my Tata indica there next year, right
One a more serious note, this was expected. They won a race prior to this and were the hot favorites

A Tata Indica Diesel has a stupid indirect injection 1.4L. I just hate that engine. Although I am a big fan of the petrol version because of its power and torque.
So we should be taking the Skoda 1.9 TDi which happens to be from the same parent company as Audi. Muaaaahhhhhh

More the probable words of Mr Clarkson, the ultimate diesel hater

Actually, the minimal fuel stops were a factor enabling them to win

Jeremys come to understand that diesels have caught up with petrol (in terms of performance).

If he hadn't, he wouldn't have bothered taking the Jag S Type Diesel to the Nurburgring............or race a Mini Cooper against a Skoda Diesel.

There can be no real reason to hate diesels anymore. Sure the old diesels (like the 137D Padmini) will go down in eternity as rubbish, the new breed makes more sense than the equivalent petrol engine. More torque means better real world performance. Better fuel efficiency and it is better for the environment as well. Anyone who says they hate modern diesel engines are either lying or kidding themselves.

Agree with you Rtech diesel technology has progressed really well in the past decade or so. And in most real world situations it is matching Petrol engines if not exceeding them. People now would be stupid to ignore modern diesel engines.

But the thing is I don't like diesels simply because I drive for the pleasure it gives and it still holds today that if you are after Driving Pleasure, Excitement etc. then Petrol engines still rule the roost.

Well LeMans is the second race for the Audis. The first was Sebring, Florida in Jan which the diesels swept outright. THe writing has been on the wall since then.

They dominated so profoundly that people are now complaining that the rules give too much advantage to the diesels. Expect some revisions from soon.

In the meantime, I will wait for Peugeot's diesel competetion.
