Jehan Daruvala enters Formula 3 with Carlin Motorsports
Mumbai-born Jehan Daruvala has entered the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 18 year old driver has been signed by Carlin Motorsports for the 2017 season.
This marks a major step up for Jehan, who has been competing in the Formula Renault championship for the last two seasons. During this stint, he secured 11 podium finishes across various circuits in Europe. Post this year's Formula Renault season, Jehan went for testing rounds with several F3 teams, and was eventually signed by Carlin after consistently being one of the fastest drivers in their tests.
The Formula 3 European championship will consist of 30 races, spread over a period of 10 weekends. This will provide Jehan a racing experience around some of the iconic Formula 1 circuits. The F3 calendar also includes races on two street circuits - Pau and Norisring.
Formula 3 is considered as a major stepping stone for Formula 1, the pinnacle of motor racing. Various F1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, have been a part of Formula 3, before making it to the big stage. Rosberg, Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Daniil Kvyat and India's first F1 driver - Narain Karthikeyan, have raced with Carlin Motorsports during their respective Formula 3 careers.
Jehan was recently inducted into the British Racing Drivers' Club. He will also be competing in the 2017 Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, prior to his Formula 3 debut.

Jehan Daruvala wins 2017 New Zealand Grand Prix
Ends the 2017 Toyota Racing Series fifth overall
There are only two Grands Prix, outside of Formula 1. Macau has the distinction of hosting one, while the other happens to be the New Zealand Grand Prix. Jehan Daruvala now holds the distinction of being the only Indian driver to register a win at a Grand Prix, having won the New Zealand Grand Prix at the Chris Amon Circuit in Manfeild. Past winners of this Grand Prix include Keke Rosberg, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss, John Surtees and Bruce McLaren.
The first race of the weekend seemed like it would turn out rather well for Jehan, since he had qualified on pole. The race, however, was a little tricky, with Jehan surrendering the lead to Pedro Piquet, after having to brake on the dirty side of the track as they headed into the first corner. Piquet then held onto the lead, taking the race win, while Jehan had to settle for second. Marcus Armstrong claimed third.
