What a beautiful lap by Lewis! He absolutely nailed it. Wow!

A 1:31.678 which is almost 4 seconds faster than last year's 1:35.402.

We are set for a great race tomorrow, rain or not.

Amazing lap really! Not a huge Lewis fan but credit where credit is due.

The even more insane thing is that the top 4 cars all broke the existing lap record at Shanghai. The 1:32.2 from the Schumi F2004 era has be blasted to oblivion.

Sensational lap from Lewis to get pole.

What about Bottas and Vettel? Split by 0.001s!

1) Hamilton
2) Vettel
3) Bottas
4) Raikkonen

I'm curious to know why Ferrari went out on a lap again in Q2. Anyone has any ideas?

Since these are the laps they would have to start the race on, it seems a little odd that they would choose to wear it out further with a qualifying lap.

They had an extra set of super softs from Q1 where they went on softs while the rest of the field went on supersofts. So there's no disadvantage to them.

Oh, so when they say the same tyres used in Q2 must be used in the race, they are only talking about the compound and not the same used tyre from Q2?

Your wish has been answered. Max should make the race entertaining slicing through the field.

Honda is behind all other Engine makers in time with their technology. The only way is to catch up by making progress sooner than others.
Atleast this year they have entered the same ball park with their version of ultra lean burn TJI tech.
Hope McLaren will be able to put some good mileage on the car in the next test which will be after Bahrain GP. I hope Honda bring some of their development parts there to validate their results in Sakura.

13th is not bad for Alonso considering the massive performance gap that they were facing at the pre-season test.

No the tyre that you set your fastest time in Q2 is the one to be used in the race. Ferrari used a brand new set for their second run. So there isn't any disadvantage really to running again.

The set of tyres on which the fastest lap was set in Q2, will be the ones the Q3 runners will have to start their races on.
So P11 in that sense might be better than P10.
Clean side of track and fresh tyres.

Nico's last years pole lap 1:35:402 will only put him 19th on the grid this year.

They are the 9th fastest team around here, if you consider actual quali pace. Honda has to change the way they work, something Mclaren has been quite vocal about.

Got it. Thanks guys.

Sixth pole for Hamilton at China in the past 11 years.

If it rains tomorrow, Mr. Verstappen should be a treat to watch ripping his way through the field. Rains should also give poor Alonso in the Honda something to play for.

We're in for an exciting race tomorrow with rain in the forecast and Verstappen all the way back in 19th in the grid.
Let's hope we see more overtaking in tomorrow's race than we saw in Australian GP.

Grosjean and Palmer were given 5 place grid penalties for not slowing down under yellow flags when Giovinazzi crashed at the end of Q1.

All the credit to Alonso for taking such a dud car to so high up in the grid. And this is how he did it:

No Sir, except on Star Select HD2. You have to look for some live web streaming.
