Default Formula 1 : 2017 Chinese Grand Prix

It seems the masters (jfxavier, arunphilip) are busy, so I am starting the thread for Chinese GP

Here is the schedule in IST for the Race which would be telecast on Star Select HD2

FP1 was impacted due to bad weather conditions and only few cars could complete the timed laps.

After the fun Australian GP & Ferrari getting back into the game, I've literally been counting the days to the Chinese GP. It's a sweet track too.

Expect a lot of topsy-turvy action as the weather prediction reads RAIN on Sunday .

Hamilton has won the most races in China & Mercedes will put in everything they have to take the flag first. Equally, there's no team like a motivated Ferrari - the race win must have been just the shot in the arm they needed. Plus, Ferrari does seem to be easier on tyres than the Mercedes W08.

It appears that FP2 would also be impacted severely due to low visibility primarily for the Helicopter Ambulance. If the smog conditions prevail like this, we may not have a race on hand as well.

Delays and interruptions due to the medical helicopter not being able to operate. I really hope that's because of the weather.

Mclaren bring their version of the T-wing to this weekends race.

FP2 is same as FP1. Session cant run without the helicopter being able to land at the hospital about 38 kms away.

Completely wasted session. I doubt teams even collected meaningful data from those limited runs in FP1. But FP2 was filled with banter by all the teams and FOM too! I really hope next two days remain dry.

FP2 had a special guest too.

With heavy rain predicted on race day again. This could be one of those late start races with reduced laps. Should be quite exciting to watch as car performance deficits are nullified and its all about driver skill. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Vettel being notable wet weather specialists.

So its totally limited running for all the players involved. Its going to be a tricky quali and race with regards to setup, if weather allows either of the sessions to go through

Honestly, I am a bit banged up about star network not offering F1 on SD channels. Now I have to resort to online streaming. sigh!

It looks like we are going to have a wet race(hopefully, so that we can see how the cars run in these wet conditions).McLaren is a disaster this year. Its hard to see them getting anywhere with that Honda engine. But they can't abandon the tie up. Honda gives them too much money . I feed bad for Alonso.

A bit off topic, but Ferrari looking to make strides into Formula E. link --> http://www.espn.in/f1/story/_/id/190...gio-marchionne

I just hope their tire-degradation advantage over Merc doesn't result in issues with heating up their tires to operating temperatures in colder conditions. This could be an issue at China if the race is run in changeable & damp conditions.

Kimi esp. has always struggled with getting Pirellis into operating range over the years, though the effect may not be as bad with durable 2017 tires that don't fall off a cliff suddenly performance-wise.

Despite the heavy lobbying by the teams, FIA may not change the schedule for the Qali and Race.

Weather is expected to be better on Saturday but similar conditions as today are predicted for the race day on Sunday. Actually, it is not the track condition which is impacting the on-track actions.

Quote:
The FIA's rules state a session cannot continue if neither a medical helicopter nor an ambulance can get to the assigned hospital within approximately 20 minutes

The preferred hospital in Shanghai is 38 kilometres away, which is too far for the ambulance to reach in that time.

An alternative medical facility is just 5km away, but even that is too difficult to reach within the allowed time because of local traffic.

All races are available on Hotstar (website & app) in HD. I don't have cable TV any more and have cut the cord. Hotstar is the place I go to of late.

FP3 Result. Lewis ran wide on the last lap ruining his time, else that lap looked quite good.

Let's see how the qualifying goes in a few hours. Exciting!

Yeah, he lost some time in the final sector. Otherwise the lap time could have been close or at par with what Ferrari did. Game on

Looks like it would be one more nightmare race for McLaren
