Default Formula 1 comes back to Canada!!

Fellow Formula 1 fans,

After an exciting race at Istanbul Park this weekend which has shaken things up a little, let's head to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in the city of Montreal located in the province of Quebec in Canada.

Montreal
Race Date: 13 Jun 2010
Circuit Name: Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve
Number of Laps: 70
Circuit Length: 4.361 km
Race Distance: 305.270 km
Lap Record: 1:13.622 - R Barrichello (2004)

Let's get on with our regular race predictions, contemplations and other race related gossip.

Montreal's circuit is famous for barriers like the Quebec Wall or Wall of Champions which run pretty close to the circuit and in the process catching many experienced drivers. Some examples being the world champions Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve amongst others. On the other hand, it is also a very free flowing track, somehow like Monza, with some high speed corners and straights.

Although Red Bull have the best car so far this season, they have themselves admitted that Montreal is not their stronghold. And with the progress McLaren has made in the last few races, they might pose quite a challenge for the Austrians. According to me, I still think that both the Red Bulls have a pretty good chance of being on the podium, shared by either a McLaren or even Kubica's Renault! Ferrari simply don't have the pace this season, and they are not expected to come up with any major upgrades for Montreal. It would be particularly interesting watching Kubica fight it out in the middle, with both the Mercedes GP cars and the Ferraris.

I have myself had the opportunity to drive on the circuit in 2008, as being part of Parc Jean-Drapeau, it is open to the public for the rest of the year. I only had a Chevy Malibu V6 at my disposal and a 30 kph speed camera enforced speed limit, but I did thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Other than the usual fight, I hope that Force India can put up a good show here. Remember last year they were strong in low DF circuits.

Agree with both of you.
We can expect speeds from Mclarens, Red bulls & Sutil.
What about Schumi ? any surprise from him expected ?

I remember many of those crashes, esp after the last turn, on the wall leading up to the finish line.

It's an extremely free flowing track. Schumi once won the race using 4 pitstops during the 3 Ferrari years.

As much as an experienced driver he is, I don't foresee him winning this race at least since Mercedes simply don't have a fast car this season. I mean they were almost 0.5-0.75 seconds slower per lap compared to the Red Bulls and McLarens at Istanbul. However, if there are lots of "incidents" in the race like rain, safety car periods etc., he might have a pretty good shot at the podium.

The mercedes are surely 10-15 seconds off the pace of Redbulls and Mclarens.

And thats

Imagine what would be going on in Schumi's head, He's a hardcore racer, and has a long way to go with the Mercedes Team, he will certainly get couple of podium finishes this season, provided he gets a good car from his team.

And best thing is " He's found his form and pace back"

Unless RedBull or Ferrari have something really special up their sleeves , I think Mclaren will dominate the race with the fully functional F-Duct and Merceeds power .

Engine power is a big factor here , I remember Ralf Schumacher dominating here in the then all powerfull Williams-BMW .

Force India is losing so many key people to Lotus and Sauber , I hope they have a good backup and the devolopment curve continues upwards .

Very surprising to find this thread not progressing.

Also i felt the time mentioned on the Formula1 web page is wrong.

Practice 1 FRI 10:00
Practice 2 FRI 14:00
Practice 3 SAT 10:00
Qualifying SAT 13:00
Race SUN 12:00

If i convert the timings, this is what i get.

Practice 1 FRI 19:30
Practice 2 FRI 23:30
Practice 3 SAT 19:30
Qualifying SAT 22:30
Race SUN 21:30

Which is correct?

And Red-Bull still shows the ill-effects of the last race.

Mercedes GP are looking like hot favourites for the coming race.

That timing is correct.

We might see a non Redbull pole this time.
