India may host Moto GP Race in 2012 !!
Hi All Motor Sports Enthusiasts,
Here is one more big news for us after India got its very own F1 GP & Mahindra 2-Wheelers all set to launch their very own Moto GP team.
India is now all set to host a Moto GP Race in 2012 on the same track which has been being built up for 2011 Indian F1 GP in Greater Noida, near New Delhi.
According to the buzz in the international media, India could be part of the 2012 MotoGP world championship calendar. With the new F1 track in Greater Noida near Delhi, being ready and just awaiting a final go-ahead for the 2011 Formula One race, many other motorsports majors have visited the country last month and have been showing a lot of interest in hosting other events in India.
After tying up with Precision Motor India to sell its bikes in India, Ducati also wants to promote motorcycle road racing in the country. The Italian company wants to get MotoGP – the highest level of professional closed-circuit motorcycle racing – to India.
Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati’s CEO has apparently spoken to Dorna’s (Dorna is the group which controls MotoGP) CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta about bringing MotoGP to India. ‘If this event can happen in Qatar, China, Malaysia and Australia, I think India also has a great chance, with vast improvements in infrastructure and F1 circuit plans firming up. If all goes well, we shall have a full-fledged motorcycle racing season in India soon,’ said Del Torchio.
The Delhi-based JP Associates has announced plans to develop an F1 race track near Greater Noida, which can used for motorcycle racing as well. Currently, India only has two full-fledged race tracks – the Kari Motor Speedway, near Coimbatore, and the Sriperembudur track near Chennai.

Why not, esp. with Mahindra now getting into the old 125cc (now Moto3) class.

Here is what International Race Teams Association Boss Mike Trimby said "There is big interest in India. They are building a new circuit from scratch with bikes in mind and the Indian promoter is keen to have MotoGP."

I would say having a street circuit in any of the bigger cities in India might be an exciting proposition for a Moto GP Race in India. They should leave the Formula1 track alone for cars only.
