FI was using the VJM-03 which is last years car and the objective was to gain understanding on the Pirelli tires. As mentioned earlier, last year's car are 20Kg lighter without the weight distribution restrictions applicable for this year which obviously means a faster car compared to the 2011 Spec.

The fastest time in 2010 Valencia testing was 1:11.470 set by Alonso!

Quote from Harlow
Quote:
Dominic Harlow, circuit engineering director
Our strategy for this test was to use the VJM3 to gain our drivers some early season mileage and collect as much data on the Pirelli tyres as possible. Overall we achieved our objectives today, looking at the three compounds available here and with both Nico and Paul driving the car. Fortunately the weather for the coming two days is forecast to remain fairly good and we look forward to continuing with our work over the remaining two days.
Mixed opinions from drivers on the Pirellis!

I think the Pirellis degrading faster is a good thing for racing. The problem with last year's Bridgestones was that they lasted too long. There were instances when a few drivers completed almost the whole race on the soft tyres which is ridiculous. Pirelli seems to have the right approach where the soft tyres are degrading more while the hard tyres are lasting longer. Should provide for better racing. I just hope Pirelli don't get cold feet due to the incessant whining by some drivers and get back to the boring compounds like Bridgestone.

Most journalists around the track are reporting on how quick the Redbulls are going around the corner. Another season of domination?

Will he or wont he? I am talking about the Master himself.

Too early to make any predictions with just the first round of tests, but the initial problems reported with KERS and rear wing are little concerning. But I just hope Mercedes will get over that soon and everything will fall into place.

As ROSS rightly said in his latest interview, with the better equipment in the hands of Schumi, it will be a treat to watch.

I believe this year too will be pretty much a close contest between the top teams.

^^I am not worried about the driver. But the car doesn't seem to be up to the mark yet. It is still more than a second slower than the front runners.

The first test of the season is generally used for basic system checks, setup changes based on different fuel loads and also reliability issues will be sorted out if any. Hence its not appropriate to come to a conclusion. Only during the last test we will know the true colors of all the teams and where they all stand.

It sure looks like Schumi is in full form this year. I only pray, that his car gells with his kind of driving attitude.

Any timings confirmed.....?

Data from Michael's last stint compared to Webber's! Just look at the consistency in lap times from Michael after a few hot laps. The Mercedes is not a dog this year!

Yes. Pretty much clear from the initial tests. The car seems to be much better and most importantly he is feeling more comfortable in the car and kind of suiting him a lot.

Interesting to see how Nico will fare in this one.

Benchmark figures raised up!!!!!

Not like the fiesty Schumi that we know to announce his 'successor' !
Vettel is a good one ok, but in a way, a dip in the competitive spirit of the champion.

Autosport has just reported:

Quote:
Robert Kubica has been taken to hospital in Italy after what has been described as a 'serious' rally crash.

The Renault Formula 1 driver was contesting the Rally Ronde di Andora when he had a heavy accident on the opening stage.

Italian news agencies and local media are reporting that Kubica was transported to the Santa Corona hospital in Pietra Ligure by helicopter.

There has not yet been any official confirmation of the nature of Kubica's injuries. His co-driver Jakub Gerber is believed to be unhurt.

Kubica has regularly contested rallies alongside his F1 career in recent years. This weekend's event in Italy was his first appearance in a Super 2000 car.
Lets hope and pray he is okay and back to racing soon.

Renault team on Twitter:
After extensive medical checks, Robert has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand. He is undergoing surgery.

I pray that he is back to full racing fitness. He is a marvelous talent to not be competing for F1 WDC.
