He deserves a fair chance in a decent team (Toro Rosso & above)
Think he will prove his worth then
Maldonado won the GP2 series against a lot of competition while Petrov finished 2nd to Hulkenberg in 2009 GP2. What did Karun do? Got beaten by every teammate of his in GP2 and finished 10th in the same car that his teammate finished 2nd in the GP2 standings ( that was Senna by the way ).
2007 : Karun 15th, Teammate 10th
2008 : Karun 10th, Teammate 2nd
2009 : Karun 18th, Teammate 8th
I don't want to be bashing him and he is a decent guy, but as a driver, I don't find him to be that good.

By the way, he wasn't exactly faster than his teammate in F1 either. He was outqualified 7-2 in the 9 races he raced with Senna. Senna had the most mechanical failures of the whole grid this year and this is what allowed Karun to finish ahead in the races.
And no, he wasn't faster than Klien either. Klein was faster than both Senna and Karun when he ran in the practise sessions as well as in the race with Senna.

^^ Agree.

But given that he has probably spent the least time for any driver in the sport in an F1 car before his 1st race.. he's done pretty well.

A Hamilton for example had spent about 22,000 kms in an F1 cockpit before his 1st race!

1Malaysia get the iconic Team Lotus name . So looks like Renault would not officialy change their chassis name to Lotus-Renault or they might have to forgo their prize money unless they can make all teams agree .

HRT would hold an auction for their seats I guess . The highest bidder would get the seats.

If Renault drop Petrov could Virgin take him ( because of the Marussia sponsorship?) .

Paul di Resta won the DTM . Hope Force India can make place for him and Hulkenberg . But they should concentrate on improving their car to quietly move further up the grid.

Default Ferrari on 2011 plans

Ferrari on 2011 plans

Ferrari is confident it can match Red Bull in 2011 after labelling the 2010 season a period of transition.

Ferrari finished third in the constructors' championship and second in the drivers' championship this year, after Fernando Alonso lost his position at the top of the standings at the very last race. The team suffered a mid-season slump before coming on strong in the second half of the year, taking four wins in the final nine races.

The result was a significant improvement on 2009 - the first year under the current stripped-back aero regulations - but technical director Aldo Costa has admitted that 2010 was still a learning process, and it won't be until 2011 that Ferrari's technical prowess is revealed in full.

"This year we did reduce the gap to Red Bull," Costa told La Repubblica. "What we have done is revolutionise our working methods and this meant a period of adjustment. And we paid for having a wind tunnel that was a bit dated. But now we have solved the problem and begun a new era."

He also denied reports that "heads will roll" after Ferrari's strategic blunder at the final race in Abu Dhabi dropped Alonso out of contention for the title.

"I'm not for the automatic 'error-guilt-punishment' [approach]," Costa said. "I prefer a more rational response, where we understand what happened and what went wrong, and then we act. We must make sure that certain decisions are shared, with responsibility not resting on one set of shoulders. But, anyway, we didn't lose the championship because of the strategy in Abu Dhabi, but because our car was not as fast as another."

Well the status is that 1Malaysia were originally thinking of using a different name than Lotus and avoid a fight with the Proton owned Group Lotus. But after seeing the support from the public, Tony Fernandes has decided to go ahead with using the Team Lotus name. Ofcourse, this means that there will be a lot of fight ahead between Group Lotus and Team Lotus , as Proton is planning to invest in Renault and rename the team as Lotus Renault.
Legally, it seems that Tony is correct as Team Lotus and Group Lotus were separated a long time ago and as far as racing is considered, Team Lotus is the racing team while the Proton owned Group Lotus is the road car division.

Tony had a deal with Group Lotus ( Proton ) to use the Lotus name in F1 for 2010. However, Tony's plan was always to combine Group Lotus and Team Lotus ( the racing brand ). So he bought the rights to Team Lotus name and planned to unite the 2 brands from 2011 onwards. However, the proton owned Group Lotus had other ideas and terminated the deal with Tony. So now, Tony owns the Team Lotus name but Group Lotus is challenging his rights to use the name in F1. Interesting times ahead .

By the way, the source is from Tony Fernandes' Twitter feed. He originally had tweeted that he won't be using the Team Lotus name as he didn't want a fight. But then after the FIA list came out with Lotus being renamed as Team Lotus with the Team Lotus logo, Tony tweeted that he had decided to go ahead with the name after seeing the support from the public.

@Hatari
Yes its a complex issue but the FIA List of teams suggests that 1Malaysia will race as Team Lotus .

AFAIK Tony Fernandes has brought the naming rights from David Hunt .Group Lotus do not own the rights to Team Lotus . Group Lotus seem to want to come in F1 as title sponsors of Renault with maybe an equity sale too . But to change the chassis name now would be very expensive . They will have to forgo all the TV rights money to do that.

I guess the story is not over yet .

Kindly keep such comments away from this thread, the season has not yet started.

We can save them for 2011.

OTOH. Whats up with Sutil, has he jumped to a different team and surprisingly Nico Hulkenberg is not heard about.
