Default Bonjour BHPians!

Firstly, thanks to the moderators for approving the membership.

In the mid 2000's, our family was in the search of purchasing a midsize car. During the same time there was a proliferation of the domestic internet broadband service. The sheer interest in automobiles propelled me to search extensively for honest and unbiased user reviews of the cars on the internet. Then, was my first acquaintance with team-bhp.

Since then, this forum had helped me and several of my friends indirectly in making decisions on car purchase, several do it yourself projects and solutions to numerous issues. Not having a membership through the years coerced me to passively follow team-bhp.

But, every failed attempt for membership through the years surged my perseverance to be a member on team-bhp. Finally, I am elated to be a part of this wonderful community and would strive to actively share and accrue my knowledge and experiences.

About me: In late twenties and like most others in this forum, my job is a mundane clicking the mouse and typing on the keyboard (software engineer).

Cars that our family currently own -
1) Maruti Alto Lxi (2009 - 80k Kilometers). Planning to replace.
2) Ford Fiesta 1.4 Exi Duratec (2008 Meagre 32K Kilometers).

Thanks & drive safe.

Welcome jetsetgo08, had you tried to register in the mid 2000s, you could have gotten in right away. You paid the price for procrastination.

What are you planning to replace the Alto with?

Thanks Samurai. Not having a driving license was the reason for procrastination.

I have booked a Swift Ldi(O) couple of months ago, waiting for it. It seems it will take an eternity for maruti to plonk airbags and ABS on the basic version of swift. I just hope they haven't stopped manufacturing the optional basic variants.

Was it a requirement back in the day? We do have a couple of BHPians (now) who are teenagers.

Refer:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ust-paper.html (Is Maruti's announcement of Optional ABS & Airbags just on paper?)

That's the sad truth.

Not really, but that was just a joke.

Thanks for the link to the right thread.

Before the booking, I had written a complaint to Maruti suzuki customer care through their website. I suggested them to remove it from their website if the optional basic variants were not in production.

But, they were clever enough and did not give a written reply. Instead they called me up to convey that the basic version was in production. The RM warned me against going for the optional variant as he himself was unaware about them being in production. I still get periodical calls from RM to confirm if I would upgrade to a higher version or continue with the booking.

So, it was my call to book the basic version. I was in no hurry to purchase the car, I booked it by paying Rs.1000.
