Default Hey Guys

Hey Guys,

This is Vaibhav from Nagpur.

I am a Mechanical Engineer by education and Software Engineer by profession.

I am a big auto enthusiast but I was not into cars till recently. Actually itís been only 3-4 months that I learned driving.

My rides are:
- Yamaha RX135 till 2003
- Kinetic GF170 Laser till 2006 (a big mistake, please donít buy any Kinetic product, they donít know how to sell it and then they canít support it)
- 1998 Chevy Camaro V6 - bought this when I come to US, everybody buys Jap cars (read Accord/Camry etc.) here but I was determined to buy a Sports car and was on a limited budget. Bought a V6 because I couldnít find a V8 in good condition and I was new to driving.

I have been following Team-BHP for quiet some time now but didnít join till date. Thereís so much to read and so much happening on the forum that one donít really feel the need to join in.

I must say that the Team-BHP is a great and one of a kind forum. I have never seen a forum grow so much in such a short time.
Things I like about Team-BHP are:
- Strict moderation
- Fast responses
- No commercial activity
- And most of all, true enthusiasm for all kinds of Indian cars (M800s and Altos are also discussed with same respect as Accords, Camry and vRS)

Keep the great work guys.

Howcome you are a mechanical engineer working as a software engineer?

How about some more pics of your Camaro? The insurance must be costing you a fair bit too eh?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

@rehaan: I am sure I am not the only mechanical engg working in software
And yah, insurance for first timers is a pain, more than 700 bucks for 6 months.

I was very luck to get my car. The previous owner has modified this V6 to look like a V8 SuperSports (SS) model with hood scoop and chrome plated wheels. Also a nice ICE setup with 6 speakers, I don't know much about ICE so no details.
The V6 is good for 200 BHP and a top speed of 140+ mph.

Here are some pics:

Boy, you sure learnt how to drive in style! While most of us were on puny Padminis and Ambassadors, your first was a Camaro! Like the spirit of beating the Indian brigade in the rush to Jap cars, and picking up a Camaro instead.

Thanks for the compliments to our community. Welcome aboard!

Congrats Man. Welcome to Team-BHP.

I too did something similar. My first new car in USA was a Chevy Malibu LS. the only American car in my circle. Granted that's no Camaro, but I lived in NJ, home to highest auto-insurance rates in the country. Buying a new camaro would have forced me to live in the car.

@Rehaan: Most software engineers in the 90s were not computer science engineers, me included.

Vabs,

700 bucks for 6months is steep, but lucky for you you are vabs78.

I have friends with 4 door toyotas and hondas that are paying $1200 / 6months just because of the age group they fall into.... (oh and thats JUST liability insurance)

Samurai, i think you just confused me more

Thanks GTO, but there were times when I used to long for driving the same Padminis and Ambassadors. Things surely have changed since then
