Hats off to you man. You're my super-hero.
Guess what, I am too a huge fiat fan and was a proud owner of the same color Palio. It was a 1.9 D.
I am from Kerala and I had to be in Delhi for sometime. I got the car transported all the way from Cochin to Delhi. Little did I realize that my little baby was never to see its home turf again. On a sunday morning, on my way to Chandigarh on the Grand Trunk Road, I slept off behind the wheel for a few seconds (its called Microsleep) and hit a moving truck. The car got completely mashed up, I sustained a few injuries, especially around the lower jaw but I was saved because of my Palio. Its such a well-built car.

I really loved the way you took care of your car and restored it. You're so true in saying that there are hardly any unmodified clean looking palios around. And I'm sure it must be treat for all palio lovers in your locality to see your baby drifting around. Wish you all luck Vipul. May your Palio ply forever and ever and ever.

Congrats for the 'New' car. It's nice to know that you still use a 1.6 as a daily driver. A perfect match, the both of you then.

The Palio has been done well, would like to see how long it lasts, as the car I got painted has gone kaput long long back.

All the best

Cheers

Vipul,I think I have seen your car somewhere before! Correct me if I am wrong but I guess you reside at Kailash Dham,Sector-50.Right?

I have seen a very similar looking 1.6 there.

Anyway,I am so looking for a used 1.6 Palio.Just love this car.

I have always felt that the depth of engineering behind Fiat cars is commendable. The fact that the newer bunch of Palios (like mine) as well as Puntos and Lineas are built to a cost and are suffering from quality issues is because of cost-cutting and use of cheaper material. From that point of view, a well-maintained Palio of 2001-2003 period should easily last for 10-15 years if maintained properly.

I think you should "upgrade" to a serious SUV like the Pajero Have you not had enough "adventure" in the Adventure ??

On a serious note the Palio seems to have come out VERY well !

I totally agree with you about quality deterioration in the newer bunch of Palios. I bought a Stile 1.6 in 2007 after becoming a fan of my cousin's 2003 Palio 1.2. But sadly the build quality was not upto the same standards and cost cutting was evident. Plenty of rattles and squeaks emanated from the dash and other plastics on my car within just a couple of years, whereas my cousin's 1.2 still is as solid as ever.

Hi Everyone!

Posting an update on my Palio as a response to online and offiline requests. Thanks for taking interest!

The finish and paint quality has turned out to be very durable. I had opted for the car being painted in the booth, instead of outside. The lustre of the finish, and its resitance to swirl marks has paid-off the price difference (booth vs outside) many times over. The finish is very hard indeed, much harder than the OEM factory paint.

Also, I did not notice paint issues like oxidation, chipping etc. The car is now 11 years, 3 months old and has covered 128K kms.

Around 3 months ago, the following panels were repainted due to run-ins with the traffic: LF Door, RHS C-Pillar, RR Door, Front and Rear bumper. The paint match was very good indeed, even where a part of the panel was painted (as was the case with the C-pillar, pictured below)

I would let the pictures do the rest of the talking. These were clicked about 15 days ago.

This scratch (on the bonnet)was cause by a cyclist. I chose not to get this corrected since it would have involved repainting the entire panel. Currently, this is the only scratch on the car:

<a href=Cosmetic makeover of an ol' Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX. One Question please.
After a decade of proper maintenance at which places it has rust, corrosion which is inevitable with age? Which are the areas to be checked? And which is of serious concern?

Ahh she is such a sight even after all these years! Such a looker. Brings back memories of my own 1.2 ELX. My mom still misses that car. Thanks for maintaining it so well.

Boss,

This is an impeccably maintained car. My five years and 1.1L km done Swift cosmetically looks much more aged. Very nicely maintained boss. I can't imagine keeping any car for that long- even a maruti's beginning to show its niggles now :(

Is this Noida or LKO? The regn number is LKO!

Kudos to your superbly maintained car mate! I now own a 2004 Fiat Adventure, and this surely is much needed inspiration for me to bring it back to it's former glory.
Truly Palios age very well. The design is so elegant and the car is built like a tank.
Wishing you many more miles with her.
