Good to see an update from you Vikram, and glad that Scout is still on duty!

My car too runs less, same mileage per year as Scout.

Is this "Kixx D1 Platinum Plus" oil a synthetic or mineral oil?

Damu

Thanks Damu!

It's a mineral oil, not synthetic. Only thing is it's not readily available with retailers (at least in Pune). I had to buy it from the GS Caltex distributor in Pune.

Vikram

Good to know that your Scout is near to completion of 5 yrs. Must be a great feeling when you look back on all those trips.

Mine will complete 3 yrs this march, has done 38K on the odo, was planning a 2000 Kms road trip next month. Just contemplating if I should get the service done before the trip or afterwards ... since the odo would cross 40K.

My Scorpio completes 5 years today. Even though the stock JK Elanzos still have a decent amount of tread left, I'm planning to buy a new set of tyres this or next week. Also replaced the battery late last year.

Cheers,
Vikram

Odo ticked over 50k kms a few days back, so had the vehicle serviced at a FNG near my house. No major work done - just oil change, oil filter change, general check-up, under-body check-up & wash. This time too I opted for "Kixx D1 Platinum Plus" mineral oil that I'd put in during the last service in November 2014.

Cheers,
Vikram

After 5 years, 7 months and approx. 54k kms, I changed the OE JK tyres today. They served me well with just 3 punctures since I bought the vehicle.

Bought new Yokos of the same size at Rs.7100/tyre. Remains to be seen how they perform in the days to come.

Cheers,
Vikram

Yokos should easily last you 70k kms with proper tire pressures. They are hard wearing and good tires except for their soft sidewalls.

Hi!
I have been using a MHawk since January 2010. I have loved driving it around and have done a lot of city and a lot of highway driving. Have now crossed 94k.
Was very tempted to change it in December, but then decided to stretch it for 6-12 months more.
In these last 6 years, I faced only one issue worth remembering. That was the clutch slave cylinder leakage. This was at approx 45k on the odo.
In early January this year, my A/C stopped cooling all of a sudden. On checking it turned out to be leakage in the coil. It had to be replaced and the whole thing including labour cost me about 15k. Now two days ago, the clutch slave cylinder failed again.
I was almost certain to change to the XUV. In fact was waiting to get some reviews on the AT. But these 3 months have made me feel never to go in for a Mahindra and stick to the Japanese trio. I have a 13 year old Maruti Suzuki Esteem, done 125k and has never been out for except a routine service every 5-7k km.
Is the clutch slave cylinder failing every 45k usual for the MHawk?

I also have a 6 year old scorpio with 97k on the odo. The clutch is going strong with no issues. My experience with the scorp has been that of a reliable tough vehicle that i can drive around with substantial peace of mind. Cheers.

The clutch slave cylinder issue was a problem with the previous generation Scorpio.

I wouldn't call it "usual" for all previous gen mHawk Scorpios. I have seen it occurring in very well maintained and driven vehicles, and not occurring at all in grossly abused vehicles So, it seems to be quite random from what I have seen & heard (on and off this forum).

But yes, I agree with your opinion of sticking to the Japanese trio, particularly Maruti-Suzuki & Toyota, if reliable longevity & finesse is a prime consideration.

Cheers,
Vikram

I agree indeed that the Scorpio is a tough vehicle!
It was the recent niggles that I was referring to.
Also, it is worth mentioning that I had my vehicle looked at by Silver Jubilee Motors, Hadapsar workshop.
Service Manager Abhijeet and service adviser Amol were exceptional in their approach. They asked me to get the vehicle towed to their place, which I did. These guys replaced the part and gave me the vehicle in 3 hours! Of course I paid for it, (Rs 6800 + Rs 1500 for towing) but its driving well now!

Odo reading is just a few km shy of 60k, so took the vehicle for servicing on Saturday. Changed engine oil + oil filter, rear differential oil, gear oil (pre-emptive), fuel filter. Apart from this, general check-up and under-body check-up was done and the all clear given.

Problems reported - left rear window up/down working had gone kaput. This was fixed by some spray in the window channel and also cleaning of the button contacts, so thankfully didn't incur a heavy expense for the motor replacement.

AC cooling seems a bit weak, even after cleaning of AC filter, so might need to take the vehicle to a specialist AC shop rather than the FNG. Will update the diagnosis post the visit.

Btw, Scout turned 6 on Feb 28, 2016.

Cheers,
Vikram

Update on the yearly service in February (last one was an aberration in May 2016 [details above, cost incurred Rs.8300/-]), with the odo just shy of 64k kms.

Changed the engine oil, oil filter, topped up the coolant a little bit and kept the remaining in the car. Also had a general check-up and under body check-up done, setting me back by a total of Rs.3600/-. I was advised to change the wipers as the rubber has turned hard, which I will do the next time I go in the direction of my neighbourhood car accessories shop. Also need to get tyre rotation and alignment done as it's 10k kms since the last one.

7th b'day coming up in Feb 2017, so insurance renewal is also in the offing.

Cheers,
Vikram

Just back from a 2 day whistle-stop Pune - Goa - Pune trip, which was a long overdue highway outing for me and my Scorpio both. Got a more than decent mileage of 15.10 kmpl with around 70% AC usage, 3 adults & 1 kid, 4 pieces of luggage and speeds hovering between 80-100 kmph.

Scout taking a break during a ferry crossing.
