Enjoyed every bit of approx. 4000km drive in about 20 days during my visit to India. On 16th Feb, when I drove my m-hawk to Bangalore airport to take my flight back to china, I couldn’t believe the fact that it is almost 4 years old.

Just before my return, I got my Scorpy checked at the Mahindra ASC Palakkad, after finding that the front left yoko showing some abnormal wear along the edges. A day before, when I went to a reputed Wheel Alignment centre in palakkad, they found that the Camber was out and the front left wheel wan't perpendicular to the surface. The top of the tire was tilting away from the vehicle with camber being very positive, something around +1.30 .

At first the ASS people said, they wouldn't adjust the Camber as it would unsettle "caster" and "Toe" settings and they would just correct the alignment and send the vehicle.

But I insisted that if the Camber is not adjusted the tyre will continue to wear out. After that they played around with "camber" "Caster" and "Toe" seetings and finally received a call saying everything has been corrected. I got the tyre rotation done and collected the vehicle. The next day, while driving around 500km or so on my way to bangalore, I kept checking for any wear along the edges of the front tyres.

As I was finding all tyres in good health and alignment, I received a call from Mahindra ASC Palakkad, inquiring if the problem solved. Smilingly I thanked her and replied,

"everything is fine as of now and see you in June".

Update:completed 4 years and did a major 60,000km service.

Date: 28/06/2013
ODO: 57,544 km

Got my Scorpy serviced at ITL Motors, Palakkad prior to my Long trip to Anand.I made sure that they changed whatever needed to ensure the available ride comfort at its premium.

I got the scheduled 60,000km Service in Advance at 57,544km.

Major Parts replaced and their Price[ in INR]:
Wiper Blades front: 548
Wiper Blades Rear: 172
Fuel Filter Cartridge:1640
Foam Air Cleaner:486
NVH Dampner:62
Bush Stab Bar Front: 106
Maximile Elite, 1.8L : 576

Labour:
4 wheel brake cleaning[as asked]: 0.00
General check up : 0.00
Water service: 0.00
60,000 km service labour :1900.00
Stabiliser bar bushes [as asked] : 150.00

Polish [as asked]: 1400.00
Interior Cleaning: 1300.00

Total including miscellaneous :9860.00

Overall, I was very happy as the vehicle was super silent and smooth with its NVH levels comparable to when I drove it for the first time from the show room exactly FOUR years ago.

The unscheduled:

After driving around 2500kms, I felt Scorpy pulling slightly to left. The front left Yokohama has worn out on its outer edge, once again. I was in Thane when I noticed it. Took it to GLOBAL GALLARIE, Kolshet in Thane.I was shocked to hear from them that the camber issue that I faced earlier wasnít resolved permanently earlier at ITL motors,Palakkad. At GLOBAL GALLARIE, they placed two Camber shims and adjusted the alignment to perfection. Also both the remote keys had their own minds at times and so got them serviced by the Nippon technicians directly.

Total paid at GLOBAL GALLARIE : 1332.00

My FOUR year old Scorpy:

Thanks.
During my recent Anand Trip my Scorpy returned a FE of 12.5 km/L when driven at 90-100 km/hr. When pushed consistently at 110-130 km/L it came down to 11.25km/L. I donít pull down any windows and AC is always on.

Some interior pictures clicked today.

Thank you M35.

Hariya, who is a Scorpio with a CRDe heart returns around 11kmpl at 120kmph and around 12.5kmpl if driven between 90-100kmph.

Your interiors are very well kept.
Oh, by the way, time to change the shoes I guess....

Thanks again.
My Scorpy did get better shoes at 45000kms. Got rid of JKs and now riding on Yokohama Geolanders.JKs had around 10k life left but it got very very hard by then.

Update:

ODO: 63380km
1.ABS warning sign
  • Was out on a trip yesterday and suddenly the ABS warning sign came on for almost two hours. Once the vehicle was restarted the sign went away. Went to ITL motors, Palakkad today. A diagnostic scan revealed an error code from front right ABS sensor. They erased it and went for a trial drive connecting the device and found everything[signals from all 4 wheels] to be normal. Could have been due to water/moisture the culprit, thanks to the heavy rain.
2.No sound/alarm from centre lock system
  • The centre lock siren seemed to have its own mind. Got it corrected, again seems like water/ some lose points in the hooter.Wanted to replace it but didnít have it in stock, so got it cleaned and placed it back.
3.Idling RPM appears to be around 1000rpm,thanks to Superbad again.
  • Got a detailed scan and the result showed a healthy 799-800rpm on neutral in idle. Should be some thing to do with the positioning of the needle in the instrument cluster. Not a concern at all.
4.The latest FE figure
  • 10.86 km/L with 100% AC [ a bit on the lower side, when compared with the figures returned earlier]. Need to do another trial and confirm.
5.Wheel alignment and balancing:
  • Got it done a couple of days back from a reputed center, Track Tyre & Care, which is also an authorized Bridgestone dealer at Palakkad. Was pleased to know that the Camber has been positioned right

update:
ODO: 65218 km
  • The ABS warning sign keeps coming on regularly. The vehicle was inspected and now they say that the entire wiring kit [of ABS] need to be replaced. None of the ITL,motor ASCs in Kerala have it in stock. According to them they have placed an order and will take another 10-15 days to get it fro Mahindra.
  • While the vehicle was at the ASC, Palakkad I got the stab-bar-bushes + a rubber insulator hanger replaced as the ride was getting a bit rough. Also got the fuel filter and brake pads cleaned. Also got the clutch pedal and door locks lubricated.
BTW, I visited Velankanni yesterday. Started at 4.15 am from Palakkad and reached Velankanni at 11.00am.

Route taken:
Palakkad-Pollachi-Palani-Dindigul-Trichy-Tanjavur-Mannargudi-Velankanni
Excellent roads throughout.

Return:
Left Velankanni for Rajakkad/Idukki at 1.00pm and reached the destination at 9.00pm.
Velankanni-Mannargudi-Tanjavur-Trichy-Dindigul-Theni-Body-Poopara-Rajakumari-Rajakkad

Except for the Theni Ghat section, the rest of the roads are good. Since the road widening work is on, the theni ghat section is a nightmare and not recommended especially in dark.

Except that the ABS sign was on consistently, the drive was enjoyable and no issues at all. The braking too was excellent as I was a bit more cautious considering that the ABS wouldnít work if I had to brake hard.
The drive was smooth and the FE returned was 11.88km/L with 100%AC.

BTW, Just a few more days left in India. Will be returning to Palakkad tomorrow Via Alappuzha.

ABS warning [update]:
Surprisingly, my SA has advised me to send the vehicle for a complete inspecion of the entire ABS wiring so that he could repair it rather than changing the whole assembly all together[appx 5.5k]. He says that, he needs the vehicle with him for a minimum of two days.
After the rains, I have planned to send my scorpy to A.S.S for the following:

1. ABS wiring related issues.
2. An under body anti-rust treatment.

Update:

The Scorpy was picked up day before yesterday by a gentleman from Mahindra A.S.S, Trissur and is undergoing a scheduled service meant to be done at 70,000km. Since I am not in India currently, all the communications are being done through the CC@ Mahindra area office Manager first and then the SM.They have been exemplary, prompt and professional in all their acts so far.

The issues reported:
  • ABS malfunctioning
  • Front LH Power window getting stuck
  • All suspension rubber bushes check for hardness and check suspension noise if any
  • 70,000km scheduled service

As I am awaiting the details including the cost of this service, thought of calculating the entire cost of maintenance/ all services since the SUV became part of my life in July-2009.

That is almost 1rupee per kilometer excluding free services, tires, and the battery. Not exactly cheap in my opinion. But then what are the other options?

I too think so.

At the time of purchase, the other option was only the Safari Dicor which I thought would have made a bigger hole in my pocket.

My focus has always been "preventive maintenance" and except for the clutch cylinder failure, I thought the journey has been good. Also that I am mostly abroad and the vehicle is sparingly driven most part of the year too could have lead to certain parts giving away pre-maturely.

BTW, How about your Hariya ? Have you done any maths on your expenditure, Rs/Km?

Default re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - in the 5th year & 70,000+ kms

Its exactly a week since my vehicle was sent to the Mahindra A.S.S. The vehicle is still not yet back. The following jobs were done by last saturday [14/12/13]
  • 70,000KM Service carried out
  • Replaced Front LH Door Glass Motor
  • Replaced Front RH ABS Sensor
  • Replaced suspension bushes/links [as stated earlier] and some clutch pin with my approval

During the service and brake inspection they found the Rear RH brake wheel cylinder has a leak and Rear LH wheel cylinder was stuck, both of which needed replacement [another Rs. 2000 approx].

Now the worst part

After all these works, the diagnostic scan/tool continued to show some error.
Now I am told that they have detected another fault but this time a very critical component, the failure of which is not common and unacceptable at all. This part is not stocked at any A.S.S and not manufactured by Mahindra. They are saying it may take another 12 days.

I was shocked to hear that a crucial component which costs Rs.32,000 has given up in my Scorpio.

Yes, I am serious and I don't think I can afford this big money.
Any guess on what this component is?
