@manoj:

Please let us know what part needs to be replaced.

My cousin's bought the original leaf sprung scorpio with the non CRDe engine and he rant it for 2 lakh kilometers without any major issues. But now, it seems like the mhawk ones are not as reliable as before...

Well, frankly speaking, No. But, like you, I too believe in preventive maintenance and I would not be surprised if my bills were to be approximately the same as yours.

A component costing 32K eh?
Sounds like the ECM/U to me, since any other mechanical component would have given enough signs before failing. Did the vehicle have any issues when you sent it for service apart from the ones that were fixed?

Exactly. Post the 2.2, the reliability of the Scorpio has gone down which is why I'm not attracted to the newer Scorpios/XUVs any more.

Its the ABS control unit

Well the issue with ABS didnot get resolved even after multiple visits to Mahindra A.S.S at Palakkad. First they suspected a faulty ABS sensor then a faulty ABS wiring harness.
Note that, a couple of years back in the early days two of the front ABS sensors were replaced already. But the most recent ABS issue started to appear since last July.

Now after having already replaced the RH ABS sensor, two rear brake wheel cylinders, they have detected this faulty ABS control unit which alone costs Rs.32000.

I strongly recommend you send an email to M&M on this and insist on an FOC goodwill replacement. ABS units are not supposed to fail for lacs of kms and the instances of their failure are extremely rare.
Boy I will not buy a Mahindra anymore. Their low tech vehicles are their best vehicles.

Exactly.

In fact after the guess work on the ABS at the A.S.S/Palakkad, I didn't want to take a chance. Wrote an email directly Mahindra customer care and its Area Manager who took the initiative to send the vehicle to another A.S.S at Trissur. I already wrote to him that I won't be affording this bomb at all.

Should I be contacting anybody else at Mahindra?
I am expecting a positive response from them.

Not if they respond positively. If not then contact their higher ups.

M35, my Scorpio has recently undergone replacement of its ABS unit. It was done free of cost including the brake bleeding. Refer to posts in the following thread:

I also feel that there is another big issue in general. The technicians are not trained/intelligent enough to diagnose issues. The simplest solution for them is to blame the ECU. 4x4 doesn't work, sir ECU gone... ABS doesn't work ECU gone, vehicle doesn't start ECU gone...etc

Thanks for that. I am sure the beast is serving you well these days.

Update:

I am still awaiting the ABS control module which is expected to arrive today /tomorrow.

The following parts were dectected as the culprits.
  • A front RH ABS sensor costing around Rs.3,500 + labour
  • The ABS control module costing Rs.32,000 + labour
Today I am told that all these expenses will be done FOC as a goodwill gesture even though my vehicle is out of the warranty period.

I do know that this issue shouldn't have been there in the first place. But this gesture shown by Mahindra to support its customer to this extend is commendable. Mind you my Scorpio is in the 4.5 year old and the extended warranty exipred last July.

The journey with this Mahindra , my M-hawk will definitely continue

Yep, the beast growls and pounces all fine. Its good to have such customer service, but I don't want to get stranded someday up in the hills of HP or UK or some deserted notorious area and pray for help to come quick. Reliability is paramount to me.

ODO: 67701 km

The long ordeal seems to have come to an end.
A big thanks to the Mahindra Customer Care Area Manager and the SM of ITL Motors/Trissur for being prompt and professional.

The ABS control module has been replaced and the brakes bled. The vehicle was washed and the pre-invoice was sent to me for approval.
  • As posted earlier all the works related to the ABS was done FOC including the labour.
  • Other works included the sheduled 70,000km,
  • Suspension stabiliser bar links & bushes replaced [asked by me]
  • the LH power window motor replaced [asked by me]
  • Replaced two Rear wheel brake cylinder assemblies [as detected at service]
The total damage: Rs 12356.52

They had a driver ready to drop my vehicle back home today itself. But since it would get darker after a 2 hour drive from Trissur to Palakkad, I have told him to send the vehicle tomorrow morning.

Kudos to them...!!!

Have you received your vehicle back now? How does it feel? Also, have they told you the duration of warranty that the replaced ABS will carry?

The vehicle was dropped back home in the morning the next day. Since I am not in India these days, I had to get it checked by people back home. I was told that the vehicle was in good condition, did not test the ABS though.

I didn't ask him about the warranty. I will ask him when I meet him personally, next month and revert back.
