Great job! Nicely done, and looks a lot better sans the walrus tooth.
In your case, this worked well, as the color is black. Wouldn't look that great had it been a white/light colored Scorpio.

It used to shine more in its walrus tooth iteration.

And those seats, goodness. I too have ordered from Delhi & I just know it won't be half as good as you have. Just look at them

Wound. Salt. Rub. Thank you Benny, that felt great!

M35, never thought that a small modification (removing the dentures) like this would change the Scorpio's look so much, for the better. A big thumbs up to you!

Cheers,
Vikram

Nice Seats and Good modifications there. Has changed the look completely. BTW, did u repaint your bumper too? The earlier pic sports a completely grey bumper and the recent ones shows the middle piece in black color?? Compared it with the 20th June pic....Or am I missing something?

These are not just ready-made seat 'covers' but custom made with additional foam stuck/stitched on to the original 'seats' = such tight fit and finish.

The central portion below the front grill was in black originally. I had gotten it painted in 'silver' to match the OE silver cladding/bumper earlier. Now, along with the grill, that lower middle portion too received a matte black treatment.

TWO major updates:

Update 1: One Major issue after a very long time: Engine overheat warning !

Last Saturday, I was driving to Kochi from Munnar last week. In the nasty Edappally traffic in hot Sun at noon, suddenly AC stopped working and the engine overheat warning came on. Pulled over [lucky enough to get a parking space on the immediate left] and turned off the engine. The radiator fan didn’t seem to work. Lifted the bonnet and found the coolant level in the reserve tank with no significant change. Did not see any coolant leak underneath either. Called up my SM@Trissur who immediately coordinated with KTC Mahindra which was about 5 km from the spot. A technician was sent in no time who found a drop in about 2L coolant in the radiator as he topping it up. Everything seem to work fine and it was safe to take the car to the A.S.S for a detailed inspection.

KTC Mahindra near Kalamassery/KOCHI:The SM coordinated the inspection and found a faulty Radiator [viscous] Fan which was functioning erratically. I was told that the coolant got overheated and spilled out through the reserve tank. I was worried about any gas leak through the Gasket or a damaged Gasket.

I asked them to replace Fan immediately but they didn’t have it in stock. Their system showed that the specific part was available only in Kozhikode, another city and a different dealership. They tried multiple places in Kochi, even outside A.S.S, but couldn’t find one. Next day being a Sunday, ‘Scorp’ was in for a couple of days of stay at the A.S.S.

The SM, a true gentleman offered me a Car for a couple of days until they could fix the issue. I thanked him for the gesture and took a cab and got back home instead.

SM @Trissur A.S.S got the part to Trissur on Sunday which was picked up by a Technician @KTC Kalamassery. Replaced the Fan on Monday morning and the car was test-driven for 30 odd kilometers.

Observation after the Fan replacement:
  • No more engine overheat sign Radiator fan works as normal
  • But some bubbles were seen in the radiator after test-drive which was recorded and shown to me. Bubbles in the radiator tank is not a great sign as it could be due to any leak through the Gasket.
I were to drive back home to Palakkad. Called up SM@Trissur who promptly made two technicians keep waiting for me as it is on my way back home. By then I would have covered some kilometers as well. After reaching there at around 7.15 pm, the vehicle was taken inside for another round of examination. A 20 minute inspection which included
  • A pressure check
  • Physical inspection for bubbles/leak along the coolant lines
Everything looked normal. Thanked them a left for home.
Cost of repair:
Part: Rs. 5215
Labour: Rs. 620
Total : Rs.5835

Update 2:

I am typing this from Indore which is about 2000km from my home in Palakkad passing through Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and am now in Madhya Pradesh. Got here in two days and the ‘Scorp’ is at its pristine fitness again. Mostly driven at around 110-120 kmpH with AC on always. No issues whatsoever, ruling out any damage to parts like Gasket due to the engine overheat incident.

Thank you M35 for sharing your experience . You are really lucky that a major damage was prevented to your car. So having a keen eye on the instrument cluster always helps.

Best of luck for your Indore trip and hope your Scorp will bring you back home safely.

Superb review. Your 'Scrop' looks great and doesn't look like it is 90K/ 6 years old.

Happy miles.

This has been faced by a friend too. The viscous coupling tends to fail without warning and the coolant spills over.
One tip in case of engine overheating is to turn on the heater at full blast and open all the windows to avoid getting air fried.

Thanks for the tip.

Yes, both me and the 'Scorp' feel very comfortable at these figures on 4-Lane roads. Apart from the nasty speed breakers on NH-3, it is a breeze driving along all the way.

Didn't take out my camera as I was not in a mood to 'click'. My eyes were busy keeping a close watch on the instrument cluster through out !

Will take a few on my return and post

Wow!

Though your scorp is 6 years old, it just appears like a 6 months old scorp - very well maintained in all aspects.

The leather seats also look awesome and i must add that its great work. It appears from the pics as if there's an extended side support as well!

The golden mahindra logo seems to add a premium feel.

Good work!

Update:
ODO: 95750 km
  • Completed the longest drive ever, covering around 5000km in a week.
  • Palakkad- Bangalore- Pune- Indore and back.
  • No rattles, No niggles and No issues whatsoever ! Sprinting at 110-120 kmpH @ 2800 RPM [ even at 130 kmpH @ 3000 RPM], the whole day in hot Sun !
  • Enjoyed Kishore, Yesudas, AR Rahman and some regional songs to fullest after some very long time.
It was yet another amazing experience driving along the beautiful NH-4 and then the NH-3. Scorp was as solid as ever showing no sign of fatigue at all, right from the usual early morning starts until late nights. After the engine overheating episode, I was a bit worried but went ahead with the trip trusting this wonderful piece of machine.

Scorp on our way to Mandav near Indore!

Update:
ODO: 96600 km

For some reasons, I had totally missed the 90,000 km scheduled service, which was done today. After the serious running recently, the ride had become a bit rough, so was the engine noise.

Apart from the 90,000 km service jobs, the following were done:
  • The worn out brake pads were replaced = enjoying the super responsiveness and ‘bite’ now.
  • All the stabliser bar bushes replaced and also the links = ride and comfort back to my level of satisfaction !
  • The entire coolant was replaced. Drained the radiator twice and filled in 8 litres of all new maximile ultracool coolant. They also found a hose to radiator faulty hence replaced.
The details are given below:
Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - 7 years and 1,18,000 km! EDIT: Totaled!-img_0009.jpg

Also got the front wheels balanced and alignment done at the very reliable and my wheel /Tyre specialists ‘Track’@Palakkad.

Will be drivining to Hyderabad in a couple of days
