Thanks buddy, Till date Paa says that it's one of the most hassle free and reliable sedan. Maruti felt that Esteem was a major factor in decline of their future model's sales simply because Esteem had been a super-hit with the people who were looking for a car with value for money.

The positives are too many to list down. There are of course some sore spots: The brakes top the list. In fact when I drive my Civic or the A-Star after driving the Esteem, it takes me at least a km to get used to the brakes of these cars that are feather touch in nature and brake flawlessly.
Agreed to this because later generation vehicles were much more refined in technology.

Quote:
The clutch is another pain and am trying to get hold of Daikin Exedy stage 1 plates to make things better. The power window motor is the weakest I have seen on any car so far but I can afford to live with it.
The clutch of my car has so far been overhauled 2 times in 8 years at the A.S.C and works well but power window is actually a slight issue as the machine and the glass are not up to the mark. I have changed driver side window machine once.

Quote:
I agree its getting difficult to source OE spares for the Esteem of late and I have had my share of the problem too. If you haven't tried reaching out to www.mgp.co.in I suggest you do so. I managed to get the petrol filler door with ease here while I was struggling to get the same outside.
Actually, For me reaching out to the parent brand is not a difficulty but since my paternal uncle is working with the A.S.C of Maruti hence all the issues are addressed on priority at dealership level.

Quote:
All the best with your Esteem and wish you and your dad miles and miles of trouble-free driving and safe ownership
Pleasure is mine. Thanks for the wishes. Being a true Maruti lover, We will be having the 3rd entrant in our home. Booking of the same will be done on Friday and it's a top end variant. Rest of the details will be given by me on Friday.

Thanks

Update:

Folks! Today I got the Engine oil changed for my Esteem at Ottozone Sector 8 Noida. The earlier engine oil change was done in February 2014 in which I had used Castrol Magnatec Semi Synthetic Oil. However, this time I have used Liqui Moly Fully Synthetic engine oil. The reason for it was that the car is now 8 years old and has run 1.55K kilometers as of today.

Here are some pics of work in progress.

Here is the original oil filter that I have used for the car.

After completing this process the polishing and dry cleaning of the car's interior began. Here are some pics of the same:

The total expense for this job was INR-3500/- including tax.

Break-up of expense is as follows:

2) Polishing for entire car was INR 1000/-

4) Maruti OEM oil filter including tax costed INR 150/-

drive the car for 1000 kms, then the oil will make its lubricating prescence felt. hope the engine was also flushed.

Folks! Got the insurance renewal done for the car today. In that process just got the car checked for a minor fan-belt noise that use to come for 3-4 seconds in the morning and while the AC use to be on in the morning. It was found that the belt was in a bad shape. So for the 1st time in 8 years the fan belt was replaced by a genuine one with an expense of INR 600/- including taxes at Vipul Motors itself.

Here is the faulty one:

Folks! Got rear left Tyre changed within 10 months of installation an hour back. There were 3 punctures in it out of which 1 was just bordering to the Tyre's wall and even after best of efforts the puncture could not hold. Got INR 300/- as the re-sale of it and the new Apollo Amazer 3G 155/r13 costed INR 2700. Now, what I feel is, though tubeless Tyre are good in terms of usage than regular tube Tyre but a shortcoming that I found was in-case of puncture at an intricate place (though inevitable due to roads) makes them irreparable since using a tube in a tubeless Tyre is not the best of the alternatives in my opinion.

Thanks

Hey great reading your post . Being a proud owner of a 2003 esteem vxi myself, I can relate to what you're saying. Do you know that I have yet to have replaced even a single light bulb on my esteem these 11 Years? Amazing but true, and she still turns heads where ever I take her out. Wishing you many more years of trouble free ownership.

Thanks a tone buddy, these cars are incomparable in terms of reliability as I think. Till date no bulbs have been replaced by me either except for entire indicator assembly of right side during an accident in 2008 October. Even today this car gives me an average of 13.5 to 14.5 in city without AC so what else can one ask for from a 8 year old reliable machine?

Good to know that you too keep your car in great shape. It's simple logic buddy, you respect your machine and the machine respects you back!

Thanks.

NC Bhai, Thanks and appreciate your reply. However, this car does hold a special respect in me and my dad's heart. We always make it a point to keep it in the best of the shape. Did you also own an Esteem so far?

Thanks

Thanks for reading it Arnab, The entire review was written with genuine feelings and since the car belongs to Paa so in comparison to my wacky City, this car is way more simple and untouched.

The Esteem has now completed 8 years and for next 4-5 years its going to be here with us. Though a new car which was booked earlier this year shall join our family in mid next year.

Akash

I came across a 2007 Model Esteem VXi, Single handed for sale. Seller mentions, mileage on highway is 17km/ltr and city condition 14km/ltr. Scrathless body. Engine is in very good condition. Only 50k run till date. 1st owner. Power window on all 4 doors. AC is in good condition. Company fitted music system. Insurance valid until May 2015, and always serviced at MASC. Quoted 180000/- and came down to 150000/-. Tyres are still on stock and need replacement.

Need your opinion, considering its an discontinued model, should I go with it or not. Will availability of spares be a problem? Will I be able to fetch a buyer after 2 or 3 years.

If you can bargain more, the price will still come down. My price would be 120000/- and not more.

, for future reference please use the follwing thread to post such queries.
