Default The Beasty vRS - NOW 50000 km UPDATE

To cut a long story short - I wanted to get back to a "petrol car" after driving a diesel for 1.5 years. Kept a budget of between 8-9 lacs and started my search for a used car.

Shortlisted cars - The Skoda vRS , Honda Accord ( old and new ) , Ford Mondeo.

Honda Accords - over priced in the used car markets.
Ford Mondeo - got a well maintained car but the history made me drop it like a hot potato.
Skoda vRS - very very difficult to find in the used car market.

Heart was set on the vRS (which i could not find) so decided to check out the Accords but then Lady Luck smiled .........

So guys - introducing the new beast in my garage - The Skoda vRS.

Details
------
Nov 2004 Company regd., MH-01 regn , single owner driven , 22800 kms done. I checked up the service history and the car had been maintained as per schedule ( 4 services done ). Was over the moon , struck the deal ( A VERY VERY GOOD ONE ) and got the beast home.

So far have driven it for close to 2000 kms - and these are the positives and negatives that I have seen and felt. I will not go into how the engine performs or how it rides , we all are aware of that. Just a few observations.

Positives - Power , Handling , Front seats , FE , engine

Negatives - Front seat travel is limited , sun/moon roof leaks (has a few drops of water always after I wash it) , no electrical power front seat and ORVM controls for closing and opening (Optra has electric OVRM's)

Have done a couple of Bbay - Pune and Bbay - Silvassa runs. Used the Cruise Control and fell in love with it. Used the sunroof and fell in love with it , the xenons are brilliant ( specially as I have a film on the front windscreen )

Avg FE - with a 50-50 mix of highway and bumper to bumper city traffic comes to about 9-9.5 kmpl while cruising at 80 kmph on the highway gives me close to 14 kmpl and absolute jam packed traffic gives me 7 kmpl.

Have kept the whole car stock except for the ICE. The car comes with Alpine 9830 HU , have kept that and the Sony 444 amp from the older car. Changed the front spekers to JBL 607 components and got a JBL CS1004T tube in the boot. Rear speakers are stock , might go in for a change this month.

And I changed the tyres on the vRS with the Goodyear NCT5 on my diesel Octy. The Dunlops on the vRS were not impressive.

What else ? Well it feels good to be back on petrol now. Attached are a few pics - better ones will follow...

Cheers

Edit - Oops, forgot to tell you fellas that I have the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play as well. And offcourse Jet Black tints.

Congrats NC for the much acclaimed RS !!!

Since you have already driven Octy diesel, how do you compare it in a few words to this petrol beast?

I'll butt in here. my personal experience is that the car though powerful & very stable is quite remote compared to the VTEC. The road feel, steering feel etc. are absent & thus is very different to drive. If you don't mind that then you would quite like it, especially the power & accelaration.

Mind you the ride is not what I would call soft!!

Congrats Dude So you got two Silver Octys In your Garage (Or have you sold your Diesel ?)

@iraghava: Doesnt a Car which is designed for Power & handling have stiff suspension & hence a Not Soft ride ?

Yes, but there are varying degrees of stiffness. IMHO (I mentioned as much in my post) the RS has too stiff a ride for my back (I have a back problem) & hence I posted that. If I were to buy one I would prefer to buy a Rider Petrol & then mod it according to my requirements.

I don't get it. You find an RS's ride stiff but don't mind the bouncy OHC? I love the taut feel of the RS. Its not stiff, its just right!
