OT: @Desert Fox and @Guderian: What is with you two? Two users named after WWII panzer leaders!

Thanks Toiingg...
And mein kamaraden Rommel the Afrika Corps is all decimated...try for a new posting somewhere else ! And don't worry about the Fuherer - you may have been very busy with the Atlantic wall - your last assignment before you were done in by the Toothbrush Mous...he was done in by the Russians ! So no worries on that count !
BTW - have you seen the pix of Fuherer's sedan a 1936 Mercedes Benz ? Great piece of automobile !

A great tribute to a Gem.

I bought my Zen 1996 on 15th August, 1997 and till today it has covered about 1,85,000/- without missing a beat. I endorse all the points you have mentioned. However, my clutch is still the original, changed battery at 4.8 years. It has not let me down even once. Just to add that I converted to CNG in 1999 (at 29000 kms) and it still roars when swtiched to petrol. No complaints whatsoever and the thought of putting it to rest gives immense pain. But the life must move on. I am waiting for Eagle Scorpio and want to grab it. I had driven the current Scorpio CRDe and non-CRDe couple of times, however, could not convince myself to spend close to 7/8 lakhs on Mahindra. Since Mahindra aka Scorpio has improved a lot and their attitude towards customer has improved I would be taking a plunge soon (Sept/Oct).

Thanks,

manu

Good writeup guderian,
I too own a zen and owned one before this one too. One of the best cars that was available in India. Sad to see that Maruti destroyed its reputation by calling the Box thingy Zen estilo. Its a real curse for such a great car.

Speedmeister - Thanks.
I agree with you totally that a great car has been consigned to the flames of history - first discontinuing the old steed and then calling a set of wheels that looks like a half eaten vada paav (my opinion please !) a Zen...Estilo !!! The old sleek thing could have been given a dose of botox and steroids to keep it going some more really !

Hi all,

Number of sales figure for Zen was more than Estilo. They could have given a new car with similar design. My friend is using one from 6 years and he says he enjoys car in same way as he did when it was new.

What a writeup man!!.
And hell I think there is something in my eyes too else why should it water reading your tribute?
I drive a 2000 Zen which I bought last year when I started my driving. In this short time I'm very much associated with it.
Once again great tribute to a wonderful car.

Thanks Archat ! Great to hear that you are on a Zen ! Hang on to it - it'll soon be a collectors item. If I had the option & wherewithall I would have retained the ol' chap myself - but being in Mumbai with a struggle for parking space in the colony, very quick corrosion/degenration of the car (thanks to the sea breeze) etc I very reluctantly gave it up.
About the eyes - ahhh...have them checked - it must be the airborne particulate, if I may dare say !!!
