The muffler gives way and has to be replaced. A new muffler costs Rs 850 + Rs 400 to replace it. I believe this is a common problem with the Santro.

EDIT: We didnt get a new muffler for 850, we got a repaired one.

A small crack appears on our right Head Light. This causes the bulb inside to crack if water falls onto it when it rains. Hyundai doesnt repair these parts and so it has to be replaced. The headlight assembly is for Rs. 1753 and Rs 60 to install it. The AC knb for Rs 800 and Power Window Switch for Rs 350 are also changed.

We decided to switch to NHTC Hyundai for our services. Not that Continental was bad or anything. NHTC was a lot closer to our house and it beign a smaller workshop, our car got better attention and they agreed to return the car within a day as opposed to Continental who used to keep our car for atleast 2 days. Paid Service

Engine Oil Changed
Coolant Changed
Decarbonization of the Engine - Rs 1150

Also the reverse switch for Rs. 650 needs to be changed.

The car definately felt a lot smoother after the decarbonization.

After NHTC we decide to switch to Kent Cars which is even closer to our house.

Paid Service

Engine Oil Changed
Oil Filters Changed
Brake Oil Changed
Fuel Filter Changed
AC Belt Changed @ Rs 392
Compressor Oil Changed Rs 3850
Power Steering Belt Changed @ Rs 273
Gear Bracket Changed @ Rs 800
Disc Brake Pads Changed @ Rs. 1011
Brake Cylinder Changed
Alternator Belt Changed
Spark Wire Changed @ Rs.315

Although I found Kent to be more proffesional and thorough with their job theyre also a lot more expensive. Im not sure if most of the parts changed really needed to be changed but this was probably the most expensicve service in the car's history. The final bill came to Rs. 9750.Usually the maximum Iv paid for a service is Rs 1750 including everything BTW they wanted to replace some more parts but I asked them not to.

After all these years we finally decide to get tints. We get 3m tints for 3200 for all 5 windows including the windscreen. However I believe only the clear film on the front windscreen is original as it has the 3m logo on it. The dealer was insisting that I go in for a sunfilm from Xenos but I insisted on 3m.

We also got Bosch wiper blades for Rs 350. Work a lot better than the stock Syndicates, or is it becasue theyre new?

The dealer is Six Eleven Accessories in Milan Subway.

The central locking system in the car isnt really that good. If someone tries to manually open the door it usually gets jammed. Finall the front passenger's locking system stops working and we have to disconnect the central locking motor in that door. A new motor or Actuator is for around 1500 but we decide just to disconnect it for the time being. We pay Rs 150 to get it disconnectedThe central locking system works in all other doors. After all these years of having central locking its a little wierd to have to manually lock the doors but we get used to it after a few days.

Thanks a lot faithless,

Well this is more of a log than a review and so I wanted to have multiple posts which would be like entries, like a log entry or somthing. Also IMO ittl be a lot easier to read and I can continue adding entries in the same way, thus maintaining a little uniformity. I wanted it to be as if I had maintained a log since I got the car

Cheers!!

Default REG YOUR POST about SANTRO

Nice to know that you are taking good care. now i have a 2000 santro LE which has done about 43000 when i bought . i have changed the entire engine oil CASTROL , the oil filter & air filter . spark plug firing is good so mechanic cleaned it.done the wheel balance & alignment . it is doing about 10 km /litre in city with almost proper driving method .( air 30 PSI almost single while driving ) The guy who sold me says it should do 12-13 with AC most of the time. what else should i do to enhance the mileage . i want to SET thing for petrol so that i can think of moving to LPG. pl let me have your feedback. thanks.

Update

The Goodyears installed were getting worn and today one of them finally gave way, A cut appeared on the sidewall of one of the tires. Im not quite sure what caused this cut but the previous day the car went to town via the port trust road where we had to use a detour which had BAD(possible the worst iv ever seen) roads and the car had to go through all of them, a little research on team bhp and I had shortlisted two tires

175/60/13 Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs
@ 2750 per tire

and

175/60/13 Yokohama A539s @ 2300 per tire

However when I went to Saifee tires, the person there insited on Michelin XM1s which werent available in 175/60/13 but were available in 165/65/13. The tires were for 2600 per tire and I decided to go for them. The people at Saifee wanted me to go for alloy rims as well as some of the steel rims had rusted but we didnt want to spend that much so we just got the steel rims polished and went with the Michelins. I got around 300 for my old Goodyears.

Im not sure if its psychological but the ride felt a bit smoother, not a world of difference in grip though.

PS - Thanks to aZa, jkdas and viper for helping me out with my questions regarding the Potenza GIIIs and A539s on their Santros.
