The run-in period is for 2000 km right ?
is it 5000 ? folks , we need to find out which is correct. I am at 2500 and driving at max speeds.

I already violated run-in time (Isn't run-in upto 1K Kms?), I went max 110 kmph.

My dealer tells me that its more important to not rev at a constant rpm during run in. He also cautioned me not to lug the vehicle. So I don't think its the rpms that count. There is a thread that's parked on running-in in the forum, which makes for interesting reading.

I think the first 1000 km we should never cross 60 (so that we get good mileage after that) and the remaining 4000 km, if we run below 60 it is good or the engine may strain later.

The owner's manual states that the run-in is 960KMs. It also advices not to break hard for the first 360KMs. Keeping it under 60 is impossible and is not needed. The only thing that needs to be kept in mind is to keep it in between 1500 RPMs and 2500 RPMs as much as possible. There is a separate thread in team-bhp advice section that talks about run-in. Would recommend all the folks to go through that. I have kept my car under 2500 RPMs for most of the run-in period. The first time I crossed 3000 RPMs was yesterday and I have clocked approx. 1050 KMs.

Opened the hood of a demo SX4 today. There is clumsly fitted rusted looking metal piece betweent the exhaust manifold and the engine. It does look awkward especially in contrast to the Suzi engine cover.

, That plate's black paint is gone and it is brown ( I got some waxing done here and there from my friends shop, not for all engine bay). You may call it as rusting.

I don't think run in is required till 5k km.

Manual mentions initial 960km/600miles restrictions for rpm and mileage will settle to max after 3000km. And that initial 1k km run-in period matches with most of the other car engines too.

I kept low rpm 1500-2000 upto first 1000km and after that slowly got towards 2500rpm. 1500km plus, I touched 3000rpm. Still I didn't face any issue and car has good mileage. Infact idling is now very quite and steady.

Its like - buy a costly umbrella and save it from rain and Sun.

Just FYI, a 4 hrs idle running = 200 Kms of run-in

Guys,
I checked the mileage today using tank-tank method. I got 11.8 in city with 100% AC ON. Think this is a good mileage with this heavy car and hope to improve after first service.

Seems like the magazines report about low FE is conflicting.. I am saying this because I just ran in 2000kms today on my SX4 and I got an impressive 13 kmpl (approx.) on 100% city driving with AC on all the time (95%) .. this is after first service with most driving done on 4th & 5th gear within 2000-3000 rpm.. I am sure some SX4 owners must be getting more..

Anyway, yet to take it on a highway trip. Next week, taking it to Jaipur and hopefully should be able to get an estimation of highway mileage.

Magazines (especially Autocar) mostly quote lower FE numbers for all cars. Guess for SX4 they mentioned 9 or 10. Normal city driving numbers needn't be bumper-to-bumper always.

I am getting 12 constantly with 100% AC on (even in Blore, I need AC).

One more thing that I am not happy with the SX4 is about the build quality. When I close the door most of the part shatters which I don't see in my Santro.

Planning for a highway trip, what is the Max speed that I can safely go for, my SX4 has completed 800 km. so I think I should limit the RPMs to 3000 or is it 2500 ?
