Busy with the jeep and not finding time to take the Marina to the TASS. Have to get the camber nut replaced as well but simply no time. All weekends are being spent with the Jeep.

Finally went to the TASS last week to get the service done. I asked them to change all filters, replace all oils and also change the suspension bushes and the tie rod end bushes. Seems I need to get the shockers replaced as well but I postponed it to the 1,00,000 kms service. Asked them to find a coolant leak as well. Next day the SA called me to inform that the leak is from an elbow connecting to the water pump and they would need to lower the engine to access the part. I told them to go ahead. That was on 28 October. The car is till with TASS.
As it seems that once they lowered the engine and removed the AC compressor to access the part, they realised that there was also a leak from the water pump and that it would need to be replaced as well. Ok I said, go ahead. Now after 2 days they informed me that the part (water pump) was not available and that they have sourced it from Pune. The day before yesterday I was informed that the part has come and the vehicle shall be given to me today. Today I was told that one of the part, here comes the twist, the original leaking elbow was not sent with the other parts and was subsequently sent 2 days back only and is yet to be received. So here I am after 10 days after leaving the car for service am still awaiting delivery. Jai HO Tata.

This was the biggest problem I had with TASS too. Everyone in my clan was telling me that I was a person with lot of patience.

But one thing is for sure, if the TASS folks put their mind on their work they will fix the problem. I guess the car maker is highly centralized. This is in my opinion hurting them as well.

Though I had sold my car, in the last 9 months I received two SMS saying the car has completed some service/repair. I hope my car is doing fine!

Even today the vehicle is up on the ramp and awaiting the arrival of the elusive elbow. The story being given is that the elbow sent earlier did not match and a replacement is on its way. My Patience is being tried very hard. Though Jeep is keeping me away from really loosing it and let the service centre have it. Did escalate the matter to the NE CSM and he promised to get back to me with the updates but still waiting. Sent a bitter tweet to @tatamotors but the silence is deafening.

It is painful but not surprising to see you being held up for so many days. Try finding the elbow in the bhangar bazaar or the like. You'll have tough time sourcing it from Tata. I had the same leaking problem in minor proportions in my Indigo and the very same elbow had to be replaced. I was unable to source it in my city from any spare parts dealer / Tata service center. I did not keep the car with the mechanic for so many days. Just parked her at home till I got the part (a week that is) from bhangar bazaar. Emailing Tata Motors is not a good idea. It will add up to your frustration.

Thank you mate. Wish I could take your advise sooner. The vehicle is still stuck with the dealer and yes interacting with the TATA customer care has added to the frustration. But the problem is that there is no bhangar bazaar here and unfortunately I ahve to rely on the TASS only and it is just adding to the misery of owning a tata, lol.

Finally got the car back with only half of the original works done. The car was being handed over and I realised that my front led were not working. I made them open the bonnet to show where they have messed up the wire and left loose wires hanging around inside the engine compartment. But even with that I was ok and the moment I sat in the drivers seat, I started my AC and the compressor wont start. I asked them and they said it must be a fuse issue and that I should bring the car back tomorrow for half an hour and they will fix it. I lost my cool. They wanted me to come back again tomorrow for half an hour after they had the car with them for 35 days! I told them to fix it there and then. They fiddled around for 20 mins and then raised the car up and realised that they had simply forgotten to plug the compressor and the fan back on. How callous and incompetent can they be?

Did you get the right sized elbow? And most importantly did it fit correct? I'd recommend to keep an eye on cooling system and coolant levels for the next few days.

. Never leave the car in the service station when the spare part cannot be made available for next few days. It would be kept lying without much care. May be you'd pick up with unwanted niggles due to fiddling around by untrained mechanics, etc. I had problems sourcing a simple part like windshield washer fluid container. I kept the car unused at home till I could source it. Not only Tata, but most of them are somewhat the same.

I would not have but unfortunately they informed me about the unavailability only when they had taken the engine off the block and had opened it. Asking them to close the connections and then mount it back only to be taken down after a few days was somewhat beyond my grasp. But those few days turned out to be 35

Is the Castrol GTX a synthetic oil? I used to put Valvoline API CI4 15W40, which along with the filter, used to cost 1,300/- to me. Wonder why the GTX costs more.

Also, I remember having paid Rs 1,100 for the Water Pump and Rs 700 for timing belt back in 2014. I was told that Telco make belt retails at Rs 1,050 at Tata Service centers.

Some labor charges look exorbitant to me. You can clean the air filter, its housing and the hose connecting to the turbo at home itself. It's a simple DIY.

No clutch work yet?

It says it is some professional grade Engine Oil.

Typical Characteristics as per Castrol website:
Name Method Units Castrol GTX Profesional 15W-40
Density @ 15C, Relative ASTM D4052 g/ml 0.873
Appearance Visual - Clear & Bright
Viscosity, Kinematic 100C ASTM D445 mm/s 13.7
Viscosity, CCS -20C ASTM D5293 mPa.s (cP) 6600
Viscosity, Kinematic 40C ASTM D445 mm/s 106
Viscosity Index ASTM D2270 None 130
Pour Point ASTM D97 C -36
Flash Point, PMCC ASTM D93 C 203
Ash, Sulphated ASTM D874 % wt 0.8

The air filter element was replaced. I do not however find it charged in the parts category. Yups I know its a simple DIY but here they did it as part of the 90000 service it seems. The old filter element has been returned and it could have continued after cleaning but in the last few trip the car was subject to a lot of dusty environment so did not bother raising the issue of replacement with TASS.

Will need clutch work at 100000 it seems.

At 150000 kms Concorde Motors had estimated a total repair cost of about 25-30k - which included timing kit, clutch assembly, HVAC unit was beginning to give up, other consumables which I was sure would come to break down. By 1.2L kms my power window motors had begun to give up as well. Each power window was about 5k to fix as they wont just replace one part but entire assembly. In all I was to expect a cost of well over 40k. I had at that point decided to call it quit to my dear Marina and moved on. You may want to set aside an RD to cover all these in the future wanderernomad.
