The acceleration in gear...

1st Gear - 45kmph
2nd - 90
3rd - 130
4th - 160
5th - 200

NOTE - Speeds were noted while the AC was ON with 3 people inside.

Even at the speeds of 200 and hard breaking the magnum behaved very well without skidding in straight line as well as curves. There was tyre noise while doing 200kmph and it should be rectified replacing it with good tyres. One thing which surprised me was even at that speed i didnt even feel that i was doing 200kmph it was like 100-120kmph.

Seating Comfort
I have tested corolla, skoda RS which when hard braked at high speeds people who are sitting in the front tend to fall on dash board and people who are sitting back side tend to fall on the front seats believe me its from my own experience(test are done without seatbelts).
One word for optra seating comfort = Excellent. There was one instance, which proved seating comforts of an optra, The guy who was sitting at the back seat was sleeping even after me doing such speeds and torturing the car which surprised me.

Things i liked in magnum are...
- ABS
- Airbags
- Excellent handling/Breaking
- good mileage for at least the speed i do
- Armrest
- VFM
- Seating comfort
- Leather seats
- Smooth gearshifts

There were lot of surprises at least for me who was driving ikon 1.6nxt(now sold).

I was in a big dilemma whether to go for verna crdi / optra magnum diesel, but now i am more leaning towards magnum... because Verna crdi lacks handling/breaking, Airbags, seating comforts.
I too took a test drive of the Magnum two days back. I was amazed to see whta it can do and that too at this price tag! Awesome car! The pickup is simply mind blowing! And coupled with the safety features and fuel economy its simply an awesome buy IMO. And i think verna is far far far inferior to tis monster! GO for the Magnum my friend!

Today I had a TD with 2.0 LS.
Guys, it was an amazing ride. Stability is great and the Power is something you can keep as benchmark.. I m almost changed my mind from Verna CRDI to Magnum 2.0 LS

from what i experienced from a couple highway weekends, magnum gives around 16-18 on the highway depending upon the way you drive. keeping it in the 90-110 band in 5th would surely get you 18 otherwise when i drive (usually around 130-150 alongwith frequent brakings and stuff.. btw we do not have great roads here therefore getting a clean patch is usually difficult) it gives around 16

@ Torqueguru - IMHO, the the prize for the overall driving pleasure goes to the Octy.

What exactly do you mean by this? What happens when there's a big time turbo lag?

I'm asking because I've driven this car and frankly I haven't felt this pain.

It would be nice if you can elaborate..

Well the driveability is quite poor until the turbo kicks in at around 2000 rpm. Until then, the car moves very very slowly and once the turbo spools, there's a sudden wave of torque that pushes one back into the seat with the car accelerating monstrously. Below 2000 rpm or so, I felt there was a severe lack of power.
