@ abhilash and philjo: i had faced the issue of sudden sluggishness while hard acceleration, only in 5 th gear sudden choking (sometime back) maybe before 10k service i guess) This was after months of pottering around in city, i just did some italian tune up and things were fine. No oil change was done during the period, so i dont think oil level is to be blamed.

If i remember correct, second time i just pressed the acc pedal completely (actually pumped it multiple times) when switched off and things were fine, so i think this has more to do with some silly electrical contacts in the sensor.

I remember Kuttapan facing same issue, which when reported at service station was rectified. They said they had cleaned up the throttle sensors.

If oil gets into turbo smoke will be white, not black. Black is when ignition is not proper, beyond the rate at which engine can burn.

@Eddy: Air filter can be cleaned, its a regular air filter element. Yes ideally blow air in the reverse direction of air flow through the filter, so that particles dont get further entangled in the element.

And how much are they charging for it ?

@eddy - Go ahead and get a relay and external wiring kit fitted, to accomodate the 100/90 lamps. Should cost around 900-1000 bucks.

I faced the sluggishness issue too, I was told that there might have been something wrong with the accelerator pedal sensor, they just reconnected the couplers, I believe(may have involved cleaning of the contacts as well, not sure)

There is no role of oil in the turbo except for lubricating the floating bearings, the oil flow is regulated and the lines plumbed to avoid leakage.

3rd free service (1 year) done. Total bill came at Rs 1004. After much deliberation on which Engine oil, I decided to go ahead with normal oil which is provided at MASS. The gains from using Synthetic just didn't justified the price, at least for my usage.

Servicing was ok types, nothing exceptional to talk about. I asked them to rectify rattling in Front door windows when they are half opened. This concern was however not addressed. I think the after market installation of Remote locking system is to be blames rather than the swift. They also wrote in remarks section that after market remote system is installed.

Neither did they agree to do touch ups to minor scratches to lower part of front bumper. They said that they could only paint whole of bumper. Tyres were rotated, rear moved to front and front crisscross to back. Tyres which were used in Front have lesser groove depth when compared to rear ones.

I had a problem with boot door not opening when opened from handle below driver seats. Its now ok, some wire was tightened.

Car moves straight on plain road when the steering is left free, so should I get wheel alignment and balancing done ?

I am still not sure about 4th year warranty. Should I get it or not.

Are you planning to retain the car with you for more than 3 years. If yes than go get the additional warranty. I have got mine and believe me "Peace of mind guaranteed".

Eddy- agree with you on the stock headlights. get a relay and 130/100s or 100/90s. they wont bother you about warranty. maruti's nice that way.

No MASS is willing to do it. Need to find a reliable guy outside who can do the same. Any suggestions ?

Eddy - Why don't you drive down to Cochin? I'm sure rippergeo will find a nice garage for you to get the relay changed

Lots of places where you can get this done in South Delhi. Which area do you prefer?

Same for me. I think that may be norms in MASS south are more relaxed.

Default Newbie update

When did I join? - yesterday.
Which car - Swift VDi ABS - White - Bangalore

Date of purchase - 19Apr 08 (3 days old !!!)

200 kms on ODO.

Experience till now
A bit jittery, being new to Diesel, have lots and lots of doubts. So, was following lot of threads on this site.

First 70-80 kms was a bit too hard and stiff gear shifts, and a bit too cautious driving.
Approx 150+ I feeling the pull in 2nd and 3rd gears, and it feels like a real solid pull. But 150+ most of the driving till now is in peak city traffic(commute to work). So had to control that sometimes with clutch riding.(Cant avoid it !!!)
And cant reach 60+ kms in city.
During this process, I am worried about the run-in process of engine, as I understand from run-in related thread that bumper to bumper traffic is bad for run-in and limiting to less than 2000 is babying the engine.
within city, I cannot do even 1500 rpm consistently. Hardly I reach 2000.

should consistently same rpm is better or variations are better.
If variations, what sort of variations.

Please advice.

babying the engine is good. keep revs below 2000 for 1000kms atleast.
varying revs are good. no hard and fast rules there. just make sure you're not at the same rpm for more than 2-3 minutes.

try not to idle the car too much.

after all, you can only do so much in a city.
dont worry too much. the car will be fine as long as we dont abuse it.

PS diesel is your friend dont be jittery
