I see that even the INRC Vtecs used to run on these stock alloys. They're really tough.

The problem with a Honda is that no really cannot feel when it needs to be serviced or I'm a real insensitive luddite. since the 20k service, it has undergone two gruelling trips to Karaikudi and to Nagarhole and never missed a beat - or rather - the offside passenger mirror stopped working. With the exception of the odd rattle, it was as peppy as ever

Summer is approaching, this means dead leaves, from the treee I park under, fall into the windcreen drains and I see leaves flowing out the door jambs. Feeling impatient, I undid the inner wheel arch linings and the heavens fell out of the car mud guards. Suggest you mumbaiya's and other sea dogs get this done before the monsoons- potential rust trap! One screw and a hand inside with the dexterity of a gynecologist can strike gold in terms of the muck that gathers in there

Anyway, 25k came and nearly went. Car went for a service and came back with a 3770 bill of which 2200 was for the rear light which had cracked and was getting tarnished. That means a mere 1500 for a service - mirror was fixed for free. Why do people buy scooters if a honda costs peanuts to run = i.e 0.15% of the cars original value, heck the 800 costs at least 0.5%, so apply Honda's economics to GTO's Merc, it should cost him Rs 4200

As the old wise man of this forum told me "you calculate too much !"

The Honda came back - tighter, more low end torque, exhaust note is less hollow - must open it up tomm to see the full extent. First let the new oil wet the bits !

As mentioned in separate reviews - the strut brace and nct's have transformed the car. I look less longingly at Mondeo's and Octy RS's especially after that bill.

Hehe my 45K service bill came to 1200. I've never paid more than 1300 for any of the regular services so far.

Good to hear about my potential service costs, Ajmat. Very few cars appeal as much to the head as to the heart. The Vtec is one of this rare breed...

If it is this low, then how those Honda service centers are making any profit at all??

1: No discounts - thicker margins when selling
2: Thai made parts - lower tariffs
3: Large volume

To add to Ajmats list, Minimum time spent per car in the service station thus saving a huge amount on labour costs. Since I have got the Vtec, I havent had ONE single entry in the vehicle complaints section.

Well, if the Honda service is so cheap, I wonder what oil they use?

The oil alone for my car costs me Rs.2,300/-. The total service tab comes up to about Rs.4,200 or so, bringing the actual service cost to Rs.1,700/- if you don't include the oil.

Well in the Vtec, they use a 15-W-40 grade oil that is specially made for these cars, it's basically made by Idemitsu but has Honda badging all over.

Honda Engine Oil

kinda out of topic, but since we are on topic of oils.. had this in my head for a long time..
honda uses idemetsu honda oe oil, but have u guys noticed it turning color sooner compared to other sysnthetic stuff.. yeah changing oil at prescribed 5k takes care of that but still i feel the synthetic oils available outside might be a better option..

Am a bit nervous to try anything else as the Vtec valve gear needs what the doctor prescribed but then judging by shan2us S&M video - the engine can take anything!

They say that when an oil gets dirty soon, it's doing it's job better, so maybe the Idemetsu oil is good in that regard?!?
