@Mikil: purely your choice, want to keep it stock or not. On the other hand 90/100 will have slightly better beam. My personal choice is stock.

I am due for 30 K service of my Swift DDiS. Is it necessary to do an engine flush during the oil change at 30 K service. Experts kindly throw some light on this.

Have you done engine flush before this? If not its a good practice, thats all. Results can be debated, more of a mental satisfaction, than things going wrong.

EGR cleaning is more important than flushing at 30k. Thats what most service guys skip.

@ Jaggu - Done engine flush during 10K Service. So that can be skipped this time I guess. @ Eddy - Can we feel any difference if EGR is cleaned. I mean in power / mileage / engine noise or on any front?.

I always thought that then any engine was flushed at every oil change? What's the point of changing the oil and leaving crud in there?

However, if you do it regularly (every 30k according to Maruti), the difference may not be as pronounced but it still should be done. If you go ahead, just ensure that the service center actually does it. Its a labour intensive task and will cost 1200 or thereabouts. | |

Bought the Philips Extreme Power bulbs (60/55W) at AK Distributors off JC Road. Got them for Rs. 830 on Oct 06, 10. This is for my Swift VDI. Advantage over the 100/90W bulbs is that these draw lesser current and are easier on the battery. I switched from the 100/90W to the 60/55W extreme power bulbs. Seems good so far. The extreme vision bulbs are also available and price is the same. Regards Ravi.

I am driving a Dec 2007 Swift Diesel that has done 64k kms approx. Changed to Synthetic Mobile 1 at 50k kms. I was suggested by a different MASS that Castrol Edge is superior to Mobile 1. Price quoted was approx Rs 3k for the oil which seems to be the same as Mobile 1. Which one of the two (Mobile 1 vs Castrol Edge) is a better oil for Swift Diesel. I drive 80% city and 20% highway, with one long drive (more than 200K) every month. Inputs would help a lot. Ranendra

Need suggestions for my Ritz Vdi - 1. First servicing was done at 1445 km with replace of engine oil 2. Second servicing was completed at 5137 km with out oil change 3. Third servicing was done at 10238 km with engine oil and filter change During a regular check up at home (~ 14400 km) found the oil level is below the mark in the dip stick. Actually no sign of oil in the dip stick. Rushed to MASS (Vitesse, Prabhadevi). The SA poured ~ 500 ml of oil, the level came up to the bottom most part of the dip stick. Somehow I was worried about the actual oil level in the engine, went for a oil change at MASS (Chetan Motors, Navi Mumbai) at 14629. They drained the earlier oil (visually the volume was less than 2.5 lits), topped up with 3.1 lit Mobil Delvac and oil filter. On a flat surface the oil level was at the top mark of the dip stick. The car has been checked throughly for any leakage, nothing spotted. 4. Now car is ran exactly 15881 km, today morning when I again checked the oil level it was showing one mm less than the upper mark in the dip stick. Is this normal for a DDiS engine to consume this much oil in 1252 km? What is the normal oil consumption for a DDiS engine? Otherwise, car is running perfectly - no drop in power, turbo is working fine, getting a mileage of 19-20 kmpl from the day one. Please suggest.

Folks - I had Water Sedimentor light up 3 times in last week. Took to M.A.D; who drained the water/fuel from the Fuel Filter Sedimentor & reset the error codes using Tech2. M.A.D. suggested that the fuel tank may have water & may require Fuel tank cleaning - does anyone know if the VDI Fuel tank has drain plug at bottom to drain off water ? Has anyone encountered this issues before ? If so what is the solution ! Thanks in advance

This is a common indicator of a weak battery in the VDi. Do get that checked before you invest in a tank clean up.
