Default Odo @ 29990 Kms; 30,000 km, 3rd service done

Back from third service.

Talked to service manager about the service light and he was upset that they, his juniors, didnt fix it. He said he will check and get back to me even when I said about TSK's experience.

I didnt drive much after the service. No rattles for now. All looks good. Will update tomorrow.

Thanks. The fuel filter is costly and then the 7.5 litres of engine oil add to the cost.

Was this a free service? How frequently do you change the oil?

Fuel filter every 30k and hence the price looks ok.
Dont remember changing it for the Santros. This happens only for diesel?

It was my 3rd free service. I change oil every 7.5k.

It is once every 10000kms in my Marina. The same in the Viva CRDi that I had before.

If filter change is only every 30000kms, the price is fine. But are you sure?

In the City, it is once every 40000kms. I am sure the Santro would have similar frequency.

The common rail diesel engines are much more sensitive ot impurities in the diesel, hence the more expensive fuel filter. The Viva ones are Rs 1100 a piece.

Have you checked the oil at 7500kms? I am sure they will be black, but there won't be any thickening nor will they feel grainy. I remember the oil change in DICOR Safari is every 15000kms.

Only for the 2.2 - the 3.0's oil change interval is 10000 km.

Very sure, checked the manual

Its 7500ksm if you drive in city or every dusty area. Someone did post here recently that Tata has confirmed that 15000 will do even if its a city ride.

My mind will be at peace if I keep changing at 7500kms though. Used to do every 5000km for Santro and later at every 10000km with synthetic oil.

I couldnt wait.

Another experience.

Parked the Safari near my house on a slope. Was on low fuel and when I returned to park it inside my garage, it wont start. Coz I knew why this happened I bought 10lit of diesel and refilled.

When I opened the fuel tank< i heard/felt lot of air escaping. Is this normal? This was the first time I was opening at the tank myself and hence the doubt.

The process of pumping out(?) the air that was sucked into the fuel system was easy to remove. Just squeeze the pump on RHS of the engine bay couple of times till you feel its full of diesel and not air. Done. Crank once and it starts up.

As for the service people I talked to, these things came out:

1. Whatever be written, if mineral oil, which by itself is enough, change every 5k.

Of course this is proven for any car, just be on mineral oil and change between 5-6k and everthing is okay for a long long time. Are you planning on going for synthetic in future?

2. Good diesel as the common rail is sensitive to diesel quality - in all the places roamed, fuel whether normal, if premium is not available, I rely on the IndianOil brand almost all times.

3. Never run out of fuel so that you have to pump manually, as the fuel pump gets damaged - though he told not a problem as there is warranty!!

Totally OT: aare what a good profile snap -Yo whassup, My name is P Hizzle, I'm chillin' in the clizzle with mah homeboy JK Dizzle - the rest of lyrics are on the net!!!

That is a surprise. Usually fuel filter changes are more in the common rail diesel engines (Hyundai experience).

Oil change intervals are for your mental satisfaction. Whatever makes you comfortable should be fine.

Didn't see the clutch and brake oil change as required at 30k service. Pressure escaping(hissing sound) from the tank is normal.
