4) MAJOR UNDERSTEER problem at speeds above 110... nearly got killed 3 times
Reason:
a)Suspension setup
b)tyres
solution: Limit your speeds at corners and always enter slow.

About the oil@Rs.203 ,Oil prices HAVE shot up.
I've been noticing the trend for quite a while.
Moreover, this is where service centres make money .They purchase oil in 210 litre barrels at very special wholesale rates and charge customers 10% more than retail.

I recently paid Rs. 1600 for a 7.5 litre can of Mobil Delvac MX (API-CI4-as good as it gets in India) which works out to around as much as you have paid(per litre). But, you can't carry your can of oil to the service centre and ask them for a change. You will have warranty issues.

Finally, stick to one service centre and one service manager/advisor.

yeah, but nope - the monocoque in the vista is space age compared to CS, either the engine will vibrate itself to death, or the chassis could Implode under the exrteme torque...

Hi Santosh,

> then its ok then...

I usually never do the alignment / balancing at the service centre unless some suspension work necessitates the checks. It was a mistake in the Honda service. There were absolutely no need for those.

It is definitely cheaper outside. If you have the time, you could try somewhere outside for these jobs.

As a personal policy, I don't do tyre rotations.

would that not be a good idea so that when the time comes, you need to buy only 3 new tyres instead of 4/5 and then use one of the earlier sets as a spare?

Hi Santosh,

For cars with relatively higher mileage can try this. Without the roatation, the front tyres are good for around 40000 kms or more. So buy one of the same make and join it with the stepney to form a pair and use the better of the front as stepney.

The rear should easily last for another 30000kms. So the next change would be 2 for the rear.

Theoretically it should space out your tyre expenses.

In my earlier Indica, one rear tyre was the OEM tyre at 65000kms with more tread to be used.

unfortunately, the roads do not allow me to test out this theory properly, by damaging a tyre and spoiling the sequence.

For eg. My Marina front tyres lasted for only 35000kms (Apollo Aceleres). But at 12220kms on the odo, my right rear tyre developed a bubble, warranty was not honoured by Apollo, so shifted that one to the stepney with a tube and put the stepney to the right rear. So my right rear tyre has run 12220kms less than my left. I expect the left to last for another 10000kms.

So the sequence that I have described may not work out this time with the Marina.

Talking Another weekend, another road trip - Blore - Kollam (Kerala)

Another weekend, this time to Club Mahindra,Ashtamudi (kollam) Kerala.

Major Statistics as follows...

Total Trip - 1375Kms
FE - 18-21 KMPL (Thx to Rajesh's advise of keeping and slow and steady)
Oh... AC Through out day and night, never switched off the entire 1375 kms.
Max speed - 90, (mostly 70-80 while driving)

Roads are Ok from Blore - Coimbatore and Palakad. From Palakad to Thrissur is more than a nightmare. Car ATE 4-5 Potholes, thankfully no major damage done, thx to low speeds maintained.

Rest of the roads are a breeze to drive by. Kerala roads are hectic to drive during day times, got bogged down entire trip back to blore.

Attached some pics, please enjoy...

(PS - Rajesh, thx for the breakfast treat, i loved it)

...Update...

Dashboard digi clock and reverse gear (white) light fuses blew for no reason. They both stopped working simeltaneously. Will update in a few days after I get time to fix them.

Hi svsantosh,

Yahoo! Groups

8th from left as you look at htem. It is a 20A fuse that works the clock, reverse lamps and the mobile charger (cigarette lighter).

This is based on the Marina fuse positions. I am sure it would be common to the models.

You could have spares in the fuse box itself.

WOW - Rajesh YOU ARE GREAT.

I did not mention the 'incident' that started this. I got a new lighter (car), poped it in, did not work, and then noticed all this problem. That lighter is going back to where it came from!!

Hi Santosh,

> WOW - Rajesh YOU ARE GREAT.

I'll accept the compliment on behalf of the Yahoo Indica User Group which has been a great source of knowledge and inspiration to pass on what one knows to help others.

> That lighter is going back to where it came from!!

That piece definitely has no place in your car.

The Marina is the 4th car from the Tata stable with me.
