NHC 23000 Service - Team-BHP

Dear BHP-ians,

I have a question for the experts

My NHC is 4 year old and has done 23000Kms. The Whitefield Honda service centre, Bangalore has told that the 4 break pads are gone and needs to be replaced. I haven't felt the need, the breaks seem to be effective and normal. The charges are Rs3600 + Taxes. The service centre tells me that if I fail to replace the break pads, the disc would be ruined that costs Rs16K (for a set of 4).

Is this really true? Should I change break pads when the breaks are effective? Will the break disc be under risk at all?
